Bei der Motorisierung stehen drei „Powerriegel“ zur Wahl: der 430-PS-Achtzylinder, der 525-PS-V10 und als neue Speerspitze der V10 plus. „Plus“ steht hierbei selbstredend für mehr PS: 550 Pferdestärken sorgen für ordentlichen Vortrieb und lassen den R8 nach 3,5 Sekunden an der 100er-Marke vorbeieilen. Erst bei Tempo 317 werden die Gäule wieder eingefangen.

In diesem Jahr traf sich die Fan-Gemeinde auf der weltweit anspruchsvollsten Rennpiste bereits zum 40sten Mal und wurde abermals nicht enttäuscht. Denn ehe das Phoenix-Team mit seinem Audi R8 Ultra den Sieg in der Tasche hatte, sorgten mehr als 30 Führungswechsel für Spannung pur. Aber auch die dramatischen Rennmomente der vergangenen vier Jahrzehnte sind nicht vergessen. Zusammengefasst auf einer DVD, werden sportliche Einblicke ebenso gewährt wie Blicke hinter die Kulissen und zu den begeisterten Fans.

After a qualifying session where the “A” drivers showed all their talent to put the cars on the front of the grid, the race lived up to the anticipation, despite a Safety Car start under torrential rain. The three-way Ferrari/Mosler/Porsche contest went ahead, with the Audi R8 and Silhouettes as outsiders. After a thrill-packed finish, the Ferrari took the honours despite the considerable talent of Raymond Narac.
