Hi, I'm James, an engineer working for an electric car company. My job is to help make vehicles as efficient as possible by making their shape travel through the air more easily.
My journey into becoming more sustainable and conscious grew out of my experience as an engineer. I often look for the best ways to get the most out of everything I use and not waste anything. This grew into a passion for reducing waste in my life and trying to reduce my contribution to the global climate crisis.
I started this blog during the global pandemic in 2020 - I love to travel and explore but I also love the planet we live on, and want to leave it in a better state than I found it. No easy feat I know, but without trying we have no hope!
Please join me on my journey; in growing, learning from mistakes and discovering some great ways to reduce my impact, whilst finding joy and adventure from the experiences.

These executives need personal development that is often supported by coaching to help generate greater insights and impact.
Secrets Learned from 45 years’ thriving through all levels of professional life
We all face challenges in our private and professional lives. Finding ways to overcome or mitigate those challenges enables us to continue moving forward. By doing this, we lessen the chance of losing focus on the things that truly matter.
I’ve encountered numerous setbacks and disappointment, only to bounce back even stronger and achieve successive new highs each time.
At age 25, newly married and during construction of my first home, suddenly laid off, living from savings and Union handouts.
The ten years that followed consisted of highs and lows, traveling, working, and growing in exotic and remote locations, covering the width and breadth of Australia and New Zealand. From island resorts to iron ore smelters, from icy winters to sweltering summers. From the majestic countryside to barren plains. From starting my first business to being investigated for fraud and embezzlement.
Fast forward 15 more years and those swings continued. As did my learning and growth, with each stumble providing opportunities to pause and reflect, seeking ways to regroup and capitalize, before resuming that upward trajectory.
Turning 50, saw plenty to celebrate – a successful career, living the life of an expat, financially secure, but then came the lows and they were extreme. Aggressive cancer, divorce, and bankruptcy to name just three. The mental and physical challenges were immense.
However, I not only survived but have thrived. Living and working across the world, even becoming a global head of Learning. Along the way I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing enormously diverse cultures with wonderfully gifted people.
My journey in helping others has become my obsession. It’s what ignites the flame that gets me leaping out of bed each morning. There are few rewards greater than being able to utilize my learned skills and support executives who are stuck and unfortunately cannot find clarity. At the same they wish to overcome their career challenges and feel better defined. I feel blessed to work with each of them and cherish the moments as we co-create their future together.
Wayne Brown continues to research and study Organizational and Positive Psychology together with Neuroscience, which support his evidence-based approach to transformative practices with clients across the globe.

International best-selling author of two books

Typically these executives are motivated and know what they want but lack the habits, discipline, and leadership attributes required to transition them to that next level.
They face daily challenges from multiple stakeholders while attempting to manage teams.

3 Key Takeaways
Invest in your teams not as a means to an end, but as individuals who will pay it forward in the organization for years to come. Have faith in your people. Use effective communication techniques that will not only land a sale, but build relationships that will last. Positive escalation is the practice of building (real) relationships with everyone in the organization that you speak with. Do this right, and you will stand out from every other person calling that company.
Orchid Black’s X-factor multiplier is its people. We use our collective business intellect, insights and experience to interpret client company data and give it insight. Then, with this knowledge, our operators clear a path to alignment, healthy growth and results-driven success.

Richard’s journey
After graduating in 1991 from Abington High School in North East Philadelphia, Richard went to the University of Arizona. He majored in Spanish and Communication and focused on public speaking, non-verbal communication, and micro-expression reading. When he was 27 years old, a friend who had a call center invited him to go there to teach English, and he ended up working there for four years.
Starting a call center
In 2008, Richard decided to start a call center with his wife. They began with one seat and fifty hours. Today, fourteen years later, they are 150 strong. They are very selective and reject more accounts than they accept because Richard wants to ensure that he can fulfill his clients’ needs with the accounts that come in, and the agent will be comfortable enough to do the work.
The agents’ experience
Richard respects Costa Rican customs, culture, and native tongue. He also respects the bilingualism of his agents. He can mold brand-new agents, and with older agents, he sometimes has to get rid of bad habits. By properly preparing his agents, he feels he can put them all on a level playing field.
The culture
Sometimes, telemarketers and call center agents feel like numbers or robots, and they feel expendable. So before putting them on the phone, Richard gets to know their names and who they are. He also trains them to give them a base foundation to grow.
Quality calls
Richard likes his agents to focus on doing quality calls. About 30% of all calls come about through referrals. Much of their business happens because they do an excellent job on the first call. By working smarter rather than harder, they earn those referrals.
Growing a business by working with call centers
Growing a business has a lot to do with workforce management. Small business owners in the meetings and events industry can grow their businesses using omnichannel support and emails. By making phone calls, they also get the chance to do up-sales, get referrals, and answer questions.
Put more effort into your communication
Putting more effort into your communication, and making it warmer and more inviting, will separate you from others. If you make outbound calls, send an email, or leave a voicemail, take the time to look at the website or the CEO or business leaders’ LinkedIn profiles to get a sense of the tone or the company culture.
Answering calls
Have your best people answer calls. If there is an overflow, it is worth paying a little extra to work with a blended call center answering service so that you never have to miss that special call!
Cold calls
Doing cold calls represents half of their business. Their forte is appointment setting and lead generation, and they sometimes do surveys.
Outbound calls
Richard believes he has cracked a code for making outbound calls! The best approach for a phone call is to use anonymity (apart from mentioning the name of the company you represent) in the first three to five seconds of the call.
The Buffer Boomerang technique
If someone gives you a negative one, negative two, or a negative three-tone, reduce that tone and make it positive to reset the conversation. Then, show active listening by repeating the question. Land it back at them with a plus-two boomerang response.
Positive escalation
When your call gets transferred, it is the perfect time to give a positive verbal escalation (complimenting someone who works for you) to gain momentum and move forward.
Concluding a call
Calls consist of an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. To conclude, ask if there are any final questions, and then finish up with a military alphabet to double-check the email address of the person to whom you are talking.
Follow up
Follow up with a thank-you email that includes the name of the person who assisted you by transferring your call.
Motivation
Richard’s agents are properly prepared and well-rehearsed. He motivates his team by giving them prizes for meeting their goals. Working with good faith and good intentions also helps them weather the storms.
Reading micro-expressions on the phone
The purest form of communication is phonetics because congruence is where audio matches the visual. Phonetics can be broken down into four different sections:
Tone
Rate
Pitch
Duration
Your tone is the one consistent variable you have when you read micro-expressions. Keep it confident and empathetic.
Mirror imaging
Focus on the speed and pitch of the person you are talking to. Read them initially to see if they are going faster, slower, louder, or softer. After about five minutes, you will notice if there is a spike or dip in their speech. Tone, rate, and pitch can be manipulated. Your ultimate tell-sign is your subconscious answering speed. Then it will be the ideal time for you to ask a tie-down, a pin-down, or a clarification question.
Repetition
Richard suggests that you repeat something from time to time to make sure that the person you are talking to is following along with you. It will also give them time to digest what you have been talking about.
An exit interview
Better phone calls sometimes include an exit interview. You could get five reasons why someone chose your competition or get a suggestion to enhance your services.

Hey! I'm ST Rappaport
I help ADHD entrepreneurs optimize their brain to grow their business with ease.
The reason you are struggling with ADHD is because some of your thinking skills are weak.
You see, thinking is not one big thing.
Thinking is made up of 28 thinking skills called cognitive functions.
Naturally, we all have stronger and weaker cognitive functions. These weak cognitive functions can get in our way of doing what we want to do.
But it doesn't have to stay that way!
By improving the thinking skills behind the challenging tasks, it all becomes a lot easier.
Yes, even focusing, time management and impulsivity!

Are you frustrated because your procrastination has led to a loss of business and opportunities?
Imagine being an ambitious entrepreneur who has found a way to handle clients, business operations AND marketing with ease.
You actually experience the freedom you started the business for. More time for family and friends. More time to do what you love.
Not because you're playing it small.
But because everything is in place.
Podcast episodes for the next 3 months are recorded.
Marketing emails for the next month are written.
And short-form social media videos? Those were done ages ago!
You connect with your clients in a way that others haven’t been able to. You understand them in deeper ways and serve them in the best way possible. Your clients get such high results that referrals are always coming in.
And when those new clients come in? The onboarding process is smooth and meaningful. You focus on building the relationship right away because you don’t have to get bogged down with administrative tasks.
Although you know problems will arise (‘cuz that’s part of life!), you never have to worry about them. You know you're equipped to deal with any challenging situation and will figure out a creative solution quickly.
You have a team of employees who are well-trained and motivated to help run and expand the business. You developed a positive and productive work culture, where the employees get the work done on time, feel valued for who they are, and are willing to do anything for the company.
You don't break a sweat.
While everyone else panics, you stay calm.
You're the walking embodiment of personal excellence and high performance…
And because of that, you're in a goal-smashing cycle of achievement without limitations.
In fact…
You're so effective… so outrageously on top of your game…
Those around you just want to know, “HOW DO YOU DO IT?!”
Doesn’t this sound like bliss?
Well, what if I told you that…
This didn't have to be a dream. This could be you in real life.
The only difference between you and the dream is training your brain for peak performance…

Are you an entrepreneur with ADHD (or ADHD tendencies) who feels frustrated, stressed or overwhelmed?
Take this FREE Thinking Skills Assessment to see what the real cause is.
While many people suggest enhancing productivity, exploring new software, or attending motivational events, scientific research indicates that the root issue lies in specific gaps within your thinking skills that demand your attention.
The first crucial step involves identifying how strong each of your 28 thinking skills are, determining which ones you can leverage effectively, and which ones require improvement.
I'm ST Rappaport,
a brain engineer
and in 5th grade I still couldn't read properly.
After endless hours of tutors that left nothing but high bills, it was time to take another approach.
Let’s rewire the brain and solve the real problem.
Usually, when a person has a problem, they solve what they see at the surface. Let’s say, for example, you never make the deadlines you set for yourself and it’s getting really frustrating, so you decided from now on you’ll finish all your tasks 24 hours early. It might work for a week or two but pretty quickly you’ll be late again. Why? This is because there is a reason WHY you are constantly being late. You’re not trying to but there’s another problem. Maybe it’s because you never know how to start or maybe it’s because once you get distracted it’s extremely difficult to refocus or maybe doing research just messes with your brain and you can’t seem to do it.
When you solve the real core problem (and there might be a few!) then everything else will fall into place. You’ll not only be making your deadlines at work, you’ll also be making deadlines with your personal goals. How awesome is that?
The way your brain is wired, and thinks is incredibly important.
You see, there are 28 cognitive functions, 28 parts to thinking. When one or more of these cognitive functions are weak it affects many areas of your life.
Do you ever get overwhelmed when you begin a new project? Not sure where to start? It may be because your cognitive function called “Focusing & Perceiving” is weak. It doesn’t mean you're bad. It doesn’t mean you’re incapable. It just means you’ve got a weak thinking skill and it can be fixed!
Or maybe you decide to plan your day every morning but for some reason it’s not working out and you’re feeling really frustrated because you're putting in so much work.
You’re trying really hard to implement a specific method to help more things done but your brain is just not able to do it.
What's really happening here is you’ve got a cognitive deficiency. It doesn’t mean you're doomed, we all have them, but if we don’t fix the core problem, you’ll continue with the same struggles, day in and day out.
The cool part is that as you improve your cognitive functions, all areas of your life begin to improve. I mean when do we not need to “Focus and Perceive” or use “2+ pieces of information”?
By rewiring my brain and improving my 28 thinking skills, not only did my reading improve, but so did all other areas of my life. I did better in school, I made more friends and my favorite, my confidence went through the roof,
But it didn't stop there-
At 17 I started getting training in the Feuerstein method.
During that time, I took Tony Robbin's RPM program, which I found really interesting, but struggled to implement. Don't get me wrong, I tried. I really did. I just couldn't do it.
So, I dropped it.
A few months later I took another training in the Feuerstein method that focused on improving the cognitive function of categorizations.
Aha!
This is the reason I couldn't do Tony's program. My cognitive function of categorizations was weak and getting the way. Once I improved the cognitive function, magic happened! I was now able to implement the program with ease.
Have you ever taken a course or program & didn't get your desired result? It's possible you too got a weaker thinking skill getting in your way like I did.
But it doesn't have to stay like that.
As soon as you improve your cognitive functions, you'll see real magic your life too

Notable Quotes
Do not be too hard on yourself.
Bottleneck is really about letting go of certain weights in your business.
You are only as good as your options.
When you are vulnerable, you are powerful.
Being an entrepreneur isn't just a career; it's a calling that demands resilience, adaptability, and the courage to lead.
Yet, the journey comes with its unique challenges: Entrepreneurs juggle numerous roles, rapidly acquire diverse skills, and make critical decisions - fast - under the pressure of ensuring client satisfaction, employee welfare, and financial health.
It's no wonder that the most significant risk to your business is YOU! Not cash flow or marketing tactics.
It's the risk of becoming the bottleneck in your business.
With extensive experience running SMEs—spanning 150 employees across three countries—and coaching countless business owners, I've witnessed firsthand that the primary obstacle to a business's growth often lies within the entrepreneurs themselves. When you're stuck, your business mirrors your stagnation.
Do you recognize yourself here?
Cannot let go and have difficulties to delegate?
Lost in operational details, overlooking the strategic vision?
Sacrificing personal well-being and social time for work?
Constantly putting out fires instead of focusing on growth?
Disconnected from your customers and staff?
Giving more credit to the critical voice in your head?
Addressing these bottlenecks is where transformation begins.
As the Bottleneck Coach, I partner with entrepreneurs eager to thrive. Using effective questioning techniques, I help you step back and shift your perspective.
The myth that entrepreneurs must go it alone is pervasive yet unfounded. True progress requires the right mindset, actionable strategies, and sometimes, a guiding hand.
My aim? To equip you with the insights and tools to navigate past bottlenecks, unlock the full potential of your venture, and thrive.
Together, we can propel your business to new heights.

A successful business needs consistency and grit from setbacks, letting go of some weights that make you become the bottleneck, embracing change through trials and error while having fun, and not being too hard on yourself.
However, most entrepreneurs still need help with this. Studying the data and analyzing the charts to decide which part of the business needs delegation could take much time, or the CEO's ego might be stopping them from letting go of certain weights in the business. In this episode with Richard Blank, he tells us how we can navigate that with his 16+ years of business experience.
Richard Blank has been the Chief Executive Officer of Costa Rica’s Call Center since 2008. He holds a bachelor's degree in Communication and Spanish from the University of Arizona and a language proficiency certificate from the University of Sevilla, Spain. He is a keynote speaker for Philadelphia's Abington High School 68th National Honors Society induction ceremony.
In addition, he was inducted into the 2023 Hall of Fame for Business. Giving back to Abington Senior High School is very important to Mr. Blank. As such, he endows a scholarship each year for students who plan on majoring in a world language at the university level.
Tune in.
