Experts today warned that the UKâs economy â currently the sixth largest in the world â could slip down the international ranks if it does not drastically improve its skills and employment systems.

Denn bis 2020 sollen nach dem Willen der EU 35 Prozent des Strombedarfs aus erneuerbaren Energiequellen gedeckt werden. Dazu muss vor allem in das Netz investiert werden. Die "hitec"-Dokumentation "Das Stromnetz von morgen" zeigt an einem Pilotprojekt in der Nordsee, wie regenerativer Strom ueber lange Strecken verlustarm transportiert werden koennte. Windparks weit draussen auf offener See und solarthermische Kraftwerke in heissen Regionen Afrikas sollen die Energieversorgung der Zukunft sichern. Dieser Strom wird aber dort produziert, wo keine Menschen leben. Hochspannungs-Gleichstrom-uebertragung fuer Wind- und Wuestenstrom Um den Strom verlustarm ueber Hunderte von Kilometern zu befoerdern, muss neue Technik eingesetzt werden: die Umwandlung von Wechselstrom in Gleichstrom. Ein deutsches Pilotprojekt zeigt schon heute, wie das Stromnetz der Zukunft aussehen koennte: Weiter weg als je zuvor entsteht in der Nordsee ein riesiger Windpark - 120 Kilometer vor der deutschen Kueste. Der erzeugte Strom muss ueber 200 Kilometer quer durch das Meer und Norddeutschland transportiert werden, um in das Netz eingespeist zu werden. Um den Windstrom verlustarm ans Land zu befoerdern, wird die Hochspannungs-Gleichstrom-uebertragung genutzt. Dafuer wird nicht nur ein spezielles Unterseekabel durch die Nordsee verlegt, der Strom muss zudem mitten auf hoher See umgewandelt werden. Eine Weltpremiere. Die weltweit laengste Anbindung eines Offshore-Windparks mit Gleichstromtechnik koennte Deutschlands erster grosser Schritt in ein Stromnetz der Zukunft sein, gespeist aus erneuerbaren Energien.

⢠1 in 8 adults of working age have no qualifications
⢠More than a quarter of working adults are not qualified
to GCSE level or equivalent
⢠Half have no qualifications above GCSE level

The European Commission pledges an annual contribution of 15 billion euros a year by 2020 to help developing countries fight climate change. By 2020, developing countries will need around 100 billion euros a year for climate change adaptation and mitigation measures. Up to half of the amount could be covered by public money. The rest should ideally come from the private sector through the carbon market, which could generate as much as 38 billion euros a year for developing countries by 2020.
The proposal forms part of the blocs negotiating position for international talks on a post-2012 climate deal, intended to be agreed in Copenhagen this December. Lack of progress on financial support for developing countries has so far stalled the talks.
