Jim Uhls is not your average screenwriter. For one thing, his nickname is "Professor Peculiar." For another, as this exclusive off-kilter discussion of his craft demonstrates, Uhls is eager to break the first rule of Fight Club: He talks about Fight Club. A lot. That seminal film, directed by David Fincher (Se7en, Panic Room), pushed every boundary possible for a studio movie, and Uhls' darkly funny script, adapted from the Chuck Palahniuk novel, is a wickedly subversive example of how to successfully adapt an "unadaptable" book. Step inside the mind of the man who figured out how to do it, as Professor Peculiar explains how to use a newspaper story approach to build a brilliant pitch, why you should interview your characters, how to know when to "stick a fork" in your screenplay, and the macabre particulars of how and why he had to murder his brother's cat.

Bob Lazar claims to have worked with alien spacecraft at a secret U.S. Government facility at Papoose Lake, about 80 miles north of Las Vegas. Lazar intially made his claims on a local Las Vegas television station in Nov. 1989. He says he worked at a facility called "Area S-4" at Papoose Dry Lake, south of the known government air base at Area 51, in late 1988 and early 1989. There he says he saw nine flying saucers housed in hangars built into a hillside. Lazar says he had hands-on experience with one of the craft and he can describe its propulsion system in detail. Lazar says he read briefing papers about the alien presence but that he saw no aliens himself....

Galapagos Islands, South Plaza, First Panga ride.
Panga is a Swahili word meaning 'machete'. In the Galapagos, it's an amphibious craft, like a Zodiac boat, capable of transferring people and supplies to wet or dry landings on shore. It's also tons of fun! Most of the group, and Mary Ann in the background. Our first landing with sea lions.

A Dance With An Angel Until Eternity's End
The rhythms are non-retrogradble cells in layered combinations and their permutations, the harmony 'unresolve' aimlessly and the instruments 'dance' to create an eternal movement of music.
Galileo is influenced by the cultural flavours of Japan and combining the "old-school" with the "new-school" in a hybrid realisation of the possibilities that modern technology can achieve. His main interests in musical composition is combing diverse styles of music from cultural and historical contexts and blending them together to craft an interesting type of mixture music.
Part antique store, part craft fair, part natural food emporium - and, just for fun, part flea market, Finnegan's has been an institution in Hudson Quebec for 35 years.
The final step in producing Minushi was writing the score. And the trick to writing the score was to judge when it needed to be noticed and when it needed to fade into the scenery. Using an ensemble of digital tools and organic instruments great care was taken to craft Minushi's musical themes and to write music that would suit each character.

Deadly Diversions takes us into all the places of Los Angeles an illegal film crew can go ... and shouldn't go. Each scene could be the film's last if the word isn't given in three languages ... "run, it's the cops, we have no permit."
Deadly Diversions is the culmination of dozens of weekends plotting out where to shoot for free and whether great craft services can convince the lead actors to return ... and the belief when someone offers you apprentice ninjas and Mexican wrestlers on tour, you fit them in the script - damnit!

A slow paced psycho-thriller, produced by low-budget horror icon, the infamous Roger Corman, not Coppola's debut in filmmaking but the first he acknowledged, or at least the first he didn't write off. Although it has some nice shots and cool moments it's not a great movie. On the contrary. Coppola shows little of the style, craft and technique that established his authorship reputation. To his credit, the somewhat creepy and bleak back drop for the film he created. But I don't want to scare you off. I leave that to the film itself. After all, Dementia 13 has many of the enjoyable horror film ingredients.

No lapidary ever practiced his craft with more finesse than did Leopold Godowsky the art of music. With fastidious precision Godowsky set to paper a great series of original works, transcriptions and paraphrases. To look at them is to be hypnotized by their complex perfection; to hear them is to experience romantic pianism at its outer limits." - Frank Cooper
