Natalie Marchenko, saxophone player from Munich, covers a broad musical spectrum with her performance, be it soft dinner music with a pleasant smooth sound or the right feeling for groovy funk, pop or soul music. She performs with a great variety of bands, plays house-style with DJs and stars as the stunning solo live act as the highlight of a jaunty evening.
Master arranger Mike Abene talks about his collaboration with Joe Lovano on "Symphonica."
For his 20th Blue Note album, Joe Lovano delivers a milestone recording, "Symphonica," a bold and beautiful orchestral project recorded largely in concert with the WDR Radio Big Band and Orchestra from Cologne, Germany, with the music arranged and conducted by Michael Abene, the musical director of the big band. The album marks the first time in Lovano's career that he has recorded an entire album with a full symphony. Additionally, all the music consists of Lovano compositions save for one piece (Charles Mingus' âDuke Ellington's Sound of Love" where Lovano sustains his tenor saxophone lines to hover over the haunting melody). In that sense, "Symphonica" stands as a full-sound, best-of collection that traces the breadth and plumbs the depth of Lovano's career.

We know about Angelo from Fishbone - the man getting the Holy Ghost on stage every night through his mic and his saxophone. The man who spends as much time on top of the crowd as on stage. But where did he come from? Around 1995, Angelo began writing and performing as Dr. Madd Vibe. He uses his experiences growing up as a "fly in the buttermilk" in the predominantly white suburbs of the San Fernando Valley as inspiration. He talks about racism, social corrosion, and the human condition in "a world gone mad"- the politics of relationships in America today. In 1996 and '97 Angelo put out the first Dr. Madd Vibe CD, book and video. The trio was called "The Missing link presents the Dr. Madd Vibe's Comprehensive Linkology". In 1999, Dr. Madd Vibe started spreading the word across the states, hitting the Midwest, the East Coast and the South.
What's coming up next? More CD's, more videos, more books and more shows. More of everything. And let's not forget the website - we have lots of goodies to throw your way.
