The title says it all: Murder on the High Seas is a dark, stormy, deception-drenched thriller. A story of secret lovers, money and greed is only the setup for this tantalizing mystery. Natalie Moorhead is a society lady with a dark side, who must flee from her ex-lover just getting out of the clink and who is also the son of the man she’s blackmailing. Beset by dangers, she decides to take a boat voyage for safety. Anything but safe, the situation aboard the sea vessel quickly turns murderous and everyone is a suspect. Well shot and well produced, Murder on the High Seas is sure to turn every viewer into Sherlock Holmes, as the killer (and method of killing) is ferreted out.

Based on a Sir Arthur Doyle novel (the author of Sherlock Holmes), The Lost World was the first big special effects film in cinematic history. Utilizing stop-motion capture to animate clay model dinosaurs, the monstrous prehistoric creatures come to life as had never been previously accomplished. Though silent, The Lost World is also a rich dramatic narrative: Professor Challenger (Wallace Beery) theorizes that dinosaurs are still alive in a remote region of South America. Joined by friends, including the stunning Bessie Love who plays Paula White, Challenger sets off on an expedition to prove his theories correct. Once the lost location is found, the transcendent creature effects take center stage and the explorers watch the beasts hunt, gather, and fight. They decide to bring back a brontosaurus to make them all rich. This would work marvelously, if the monster didn’t escape into London! The ensuing chaos is as enthralling and unforgettable as the rest of The Lost World.

In one of the earliest Sherlock Holmes films ever produced, A Study in Scarlet is the enigmatic tale of homicide and bloody codes. When a rich member of a high society business group is murdered, Sherlock Holmes is hired by his widow to investigate. Secret passages, murder suspects, lying, cheating, and scheming populate this engaging and mysterious adventure. Holmes employs his deductive reasoning to its utmost, while the criminals deviously try to cover up their wrongdoings. A Study in Scarlet is orthodox Sherlock Holmes fun, and that’s a good thing.
These tomatoes only grow on the Galapagos Islands. Klaus, our Mountain Travel Sobek adventure guide, said it took the foremost "tomato-ologist" a long time to figure out how to germinate the seeds. The tomatoes were delicious. We all took some seeds home with us, but without violating any of the strict import/export rules. As Sherlock Holmes would say, "It's alimentary, my dear Watson." Sherlock Holmes returns in the masterful mystery Terror By Night. Played by perfectly cast Basil Rathbone, Holmes is hired to safeguard a precious diamond. The precious gem is to be transported by train, and Holmes correctly deduces that this is when thieves will strike. And strike they do! However, Holmes has switched the diamond out for a fake. All would be well since the gem was kept safe, but the diamond’s owner is murdered on the train! From this point on, Terror By Night, unlike other Sherlock Holmes films, is more true to the original form of the novels in that the story focuses on deduction and hints as to who the murderer could be. Subtle, penetrating, and clever, Terror By Night is Sherlock Holmes at his best.

Sherlock Holmes is probably the most famous detective in the world. The tales of his exploits have been seen in magazines, books, television screens, the movies and even in computer games. And yet, there is a mysterious side to this fictional character that has eluded and yet drawn us for decades.
In a way reminiscent of Holme's art of deduction, this film gets to grips with the creator of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and uncovers an even more bizarre and mysterious tale than anybody could have expected.
From secret societies to the occult, from peer pressure to inner turmoil, this is a story of such depth that it will speak to one and all. Uncovering dark secrets of Conan Doyle, this film finally explains what experiences and influences helped to forge the character of not just Sherlock Holmes, but also Moriarty and Watson.
You will never see Sherlock Holmes in the same way again.
