John Blake used to be a poet and actor; now he is an accountant . Locked into a routine of work and drinking, he listens glumly to tapes of his performances and cynically reflects that it was 'all bullshit'. His wife Maggie attempts to reconnect him with the joyful spirit that brought them together; his drinking buddy Jim, challenges him to pick up the shards of his fractured artistic vision. Director Michael Poitevin infuses his film with words of Shakespeare ('As You Like It') and the atmosphere of bars, allowing his story to explore the conflict between conformity and creativity, between despair and clarity and between those who dare and those too scared to dream, in this ultimately uplifting portrait of an artist's rebirth.

It's Mabon, and here we are in Mabontide ready for a celebration! Some call this the last harvest, Lammas being the first. Some call it the second of three with the final being Samhain. Either way, this is Mabon and we do celebrate the harvest at this time.
Not only do we celebrate the harvest, we give thanks. In fact, it can be said that Thanksgiving as people in the USA celebrate it is Mabon transplanted to later in the calendar. And yes, we give thanks. Not just for the good things that are apparent, but also for those that might not be apparent. There are those things we've been too busy to notice. There are some things which we might have come to take for granted. And yes, there probably are some blessings which we simply haven't realized. And this is the time for that.
This is another one of those Sabbats where the emphasis is on fulfillment. Those who feel as if they are in exile from other paths can take comfort in that. The Wheel Of The Year is about a promise and its fulfillment. There's no talk of "God's will" here because the will of The Divine is our fulfillment, happiness and well-being. There is no talk of "God's time" because each and every Sabbat can be marked on the calendar. As for "God's higher plan," this is indeed that "higher plan", and woe be those who stand in the way!
And so come, join in this celebration!
Blessed Be!

This lush bio-pic of the brilliant composer and piano virtuoso Franz Liszt (Dirk Bogarde) depicts the great conflicts in his young life. Liszt has begun to tire of the oppressive demands of his current mistress, Countess Marie (Genevieve Page), who has given up her own life and young children to live with him despite a great scandal. Liszt prefers to flee to the adoration of the crowds and the concert stage, where he captures the attention of another adoring woman, the beautiful Russian princess, Carolyne (Capucine). Carolyne encourages Liszt to go into a sort of exile, so he can focus on his composition, while she awaits her divorce. Despite her great love for the composer, he is torn between his carnal passions, his religious devotion, and the demands of his artistry. The last film directed by Charles Vidor (who died before its completion, replaced by George Cukor) is a gorgeous spectacle photographed by the famed cinematographer James Wong Howe. Newly remastered.
George Newbern returns to voice Superman in "Superman/Shazam! The Return of Black Adam," and is joined by Jerry O'Connell (Sliders), who perfectly captures the awe of Captain Marvel discovering his powers for the first time. Billy Batson (Zach Callison) is granted his abilities by the wizard Shazam (James Garner) after his innate goodness is noted by a street bum, Tony (Kevin Michael Richardson) -- who's actually a magical talking tiger, Tawky Tawny. Billy gets his powers none too soon, either, as Fawcett City is under attack by a newly returned Black Adam (Arnold Vosloo) following a 5000 year exile. Black Adam is looking for Billy, to destroy him before the wizard can endow his power to him. This film features some of the cleanest, most detailed animation to date from the DC Comics studios, featuring a version of Superman that comes closer to his comic book image than even the Ruby-Spears series. In fact, the whole thing just looks great, visually, with some powerhouse fight scenes that will please any superhero comics fan. This has all the feel of a full-length feature, packed down into an economy-sized adventure.
