For 20 years, from age 13 until after she married, Laura cared for her father. . Laura decides this must not continue and that she must live her own life. So she abandons her Alzheimer's disease-afflicted father at a county fair, without any ID--just a slip of paper that says "My name is Larry." Detective Liz Roberts, who also was abandoned by her birth mother, is assigned to the case, and in her investigation into Larry's identity and her attempt to locate Laura, she discovers many long-lost secrets. The story reels you in with little clues as to where it is heading as it builds to an 'insane' climax that you will never see coming. One reviewer said "I was drawn into the story right away. The descriptions were so vivid, I could see the characters and the scenery in my mind as the story unfolded. I was surprised as the author continued to take me through the twists and turns and secrets (of a) gripping story." Other reviewers agreed: "Apart from being a very good tragedy, this book also can be categorized as an excellent psychological thriller. Every character in this story has some emotional issues of their own including the leading investigator. Dark secrets of their lives (await) to make their lives more miserable." " I would not let me go until I finished it. I expected a miserable tale of a sufferer from the disease but was served much more than this. The book indeed offers a lot of information and insight into the life of the victims and their careers and relatives, but the story to me was more a psychological thriller."
Filmed: 2007 Position: Production Assistant (Audio) Trailer for a short film I worked on. It was one of four student films sent to California to be judged in a short film competition where it won an award. The "overpass scenes" contain audio that I recorded while parts of the video were shot against a green screen. Additionally, I "fixed" (reset) the camera for the directors when they couldn't figure out why it wasn't working; this was critical to finishing the film on time, as the "overpass scene" was the climax of the film. (To the directors' credit, the reset button was unmarked and pretty well hidden.)
To mark the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in Norway 1913-2013, the Arctic Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra presents “DER SCHÖNE TOD – the beautiful death” – an opera installation in the name of film history and the history of feminism.
Opera is extremely dangerous for women!
Especially if they are on stage. The chance that the female protagonist before curtain fall will be stabbed, commit suicide, be poisoned by violets, caught in an avalanche she sets off because she sings too powerfully, or that she dies of one seemingly poetic disease or other – that chance is imminently great. But why does she die? The lives that women lead onstage would never have been accepted off stage in their time. Therefore the opera woman is sacrificed on the altar of entertainment, she is objectified and becomes ”the other” that we as an audience can pity, but not feel threatened by. “Der schöne Tod” gives the audience an opportunity to meet characters like Carmen and Isolde in a series of death scenes from the romantic opera’s absolute climax.
The golden age of opera conincides with the birth of film. This new form of entertainment, which would soon overtake as the pop-medium of the era, adopted melodrama in plots and music, popularity and star cult from the opera stage. “Der schöne Tod” gains inspiration from the silent opera film – a well hidden chapter in film history – where entire operas were filmed and screened accompanied by live soloists and orchestra.
“The death of a beautiful woman is, unquestionably, the most poetic topic in the world” (Edgar Allan Poe)
“Der schöne Tod – the beautiful death” is part of the program for the 2013 Tromsø International Film Festival.
