Teachers rightly worry about not getting the professional respect they deserve. Doing the most to tarnish their reputation are the unions that claim to represent them. For example, the Texas State Teachers Association refers to the classroom as a "worksite." That might be an appropriate designation for a demolition zone, but a classroom?!
