Reality Television is all over our screens and creates âwater coolerâ moments on TV. Everyone has seen some form of reality TV show and it is always a hot topic of conversation.
The premise of the documentary is aimed at why these shows are so popular. There are record breaking viewing figures year after year for existing reality TV shows and new ones. Something keeps drawing this audience in. What is it? That is what âThe Real Lifeâ aims to look into.
To understand more about finding the reality in reality TV, we needed to find a person that both knew the subject area of celebrity culture and someone who the viewing audience can understand the academic point of view. Dr Lee Barron who specialises in this area was the person who we approached. He was the main voice of reason for the documentary and is a good starting point to go on from.
To enforce and answer the question set out of âWhy are Reality TV Shows so popularâ and to understand more about the âcelebrity wannbeâ culture, we wanted to interview people that are both recognisable to the public and have been through the experience of being in one. This led us to find characters that have been on âBig Brotherâ. We also interviewed Marc Pickering who played the role of âR Wayneâ in Britainâs Got The Pop Factor, a spoof show of this genre.
