For the second night in a row, I took the trek to the Alamo Drafthouse at the Ritz in Austin to see one of my biggest heroes, animation master Ralph Bakshi. This time around, the itinerary included his timeless masterpiece, American Pop. Like the night before, it was a treat to see a movie that I was too young to get in on the first time around in all its 35mm glory.
This time around, the Q&A took place before the film, since it started after 10pm. The audience was treated to a fairly lengthy Q&A, & I was especially happy to hear that two of my favorite films, Coonskin (aka Streetfight) & Hey Good Lookin' were finally going to see a dvd release in the (hopefully) not-too-distant future. Bakshi also treated us to several great stories about his times in the film industry.
