March 5, 2012 Congresswoman Kaptur, Congressman Kucinich, and Candidate Veysey- "Congressional Debate" The Blade's ombudsman, Jack Lessenberry asked various questions from all three candidates on health care, seniority in Congress, and a proposed national right to work law. Miss Kaptur stated that something has to be done with the Asian Carp problem in the Great Lakes. She blames most of the deficit on the Wall Street bailout, the Bush tax cuts, and wars. Mr. Kucinich said he supported the health care bill reluctantly because he would have preferred a single-payer system and said he has a close relationship with President Obama. He agrees with Kaptur about the Asian Carp problem. He explained that we must stop the war and look for investments to help the economy. Mr. Veysey attacked the $15 trillion federal debt and criticized the Affordable Care Act because it creates an $8,000.00 "doughnut hole" for employees whose employers will choose to the $2,000 penalty vs the insurance premium. All three candidates opposed a proposed right to work law.

"All That She Wants" is a hit single of Swedish pop group Ace of Base. The song was produced by Denniz Pop. In early 1993, the song reached the top of the charts in many countries, including Denmark, the United Kingdom and Australia. The single was certified Platinum in the United States, where it peaked at #2. It is one of the highest-selling #2 songs of all time in the States: it stayed in the top three songs on Billboard Hot 100 list for three months, but never actually reached the #1 position. The song is currently the 71st best-selling single of all time in Germany.
Simón, the son of Simeon Stylites, has lived for 6 years, 6 weeks and 6 days atop an eight-meter pillar in the middle of the desert, praying for spiritual purification. A congregation of priests and peasants salute him and offer him a brand new pillar to stand on and carry on his mission. He comes down the pillar and is offered priesthood, but refuses because he considers himself unworthy, and forsakes his aging mother for the love of God before climbing up his new pillar. He heals an amputee missing both hands, whose first use of them is to slap his child. But the congregation quickly departs unimpressed, leaving Simón alone. Time goes by and Simón meets a number of regular characters - a handsome priest whom he condemns on grounds of vanity, a dwarf herder and his mother, who comes to live close to him but remains neglected of attention. A woman (Silvia Pinal), Satan, visits him three times: first as an innocent girl chanting curses in Latin, second disguised as Jesus Christ. She constantly tries to make Simón give up his task and climb down the pillar, but he refuses every time. She even possesses one of the priests that visit him, who is consequently exorcised by the priests. The third time, a coffin trails across the desert and finally stops next to the pillar. It opens up to reveal Satan, clad in a toga, who at last climbs up the pillar and vanishes with Simón for good. In an anachronistic turn, the couple find themselves sitting inside a crowded, jumping 1960s nightclub with a live instrumental rock band on stage. Satan tells Simón that the song the '60s hipsters are dancing to is called "Radioactive Flesh." Simón protests about wanting to go home, but Satan says he cannot. ******************** This version of the film has all-new subtitles and a musical score by Ennio Morricone.

Part I (Shipwreck and Survival) with the "Aotearo" Overture by Doublas Lilburn *** *** Part II (Danger and Friendship) with "From Me Flows What You Call Time" by Toru Takemitsu" and "The Prince of Denmark's March" and "The Island Princess by Jeremiah Clarke, *** *** Part III (Triumph and Return) with "From Me Flows What You Call Time" by Takemitsu and the "Aotearoa" Overture by Lilburn. This three-part series is devoted to Luis Buñuel's 1952 classic "The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe', starring Dan O'Herlihy as Crusoe and Jaime Fernandez as Friday. It's based, of course, on the famous novel by Daniel Defoe. ***************** (ABOUT THE MUSIC) The music I used in this video is by New Zealand-born Douglas Lilburn. The music has a suitably adventurous and sea-going spirit, and is appropriately by a composer from an exotic island. The pieces in each of the three sections all have something to do with islands. The music I used for Part II video is by modern Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu and English Baroque composer Jeremiah Clarke. Takemitsu's music employs exotic percussion instruments from various islands around the world, including Japan, Bali, and the Caribbean. Clarke's music is from a semi-opera entitled 'The Island Princess'. The pieces in each of the three sections all have something to do with islands. Part III reprises the music by Takemitsu and Lilburn. ------------------------------- *Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. "Winemaking Contest": In this episode of "Get Lost in Loudoun," our challengers arrive at Sunset Hills Vineyard, just outside Purcellville. Less than an hour west of Washington, D.C., Loudoun is known as DC's Wine Country, and is the home of 30 wineries and tasting rooms, and wine is an important part of the Loudoun tourism experience. They meet two Loudoun winemakers, Lori Corcoran of Corcoran Vineyards, and Nate Walsh of Sunset Hills, who give them an overview their wineries and of Loudoun's wine country. Sustainable agriculture and collaboration are two concepts that drive the Loudoun wine experience and are helping to establish Loudoun as the wine country to experience on the East Coast. The competition today for our challengers is to create their own unique blend of wine using three popular Loudoun varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. They'll be judged on three criteria: taste, bottle presentation, and accuracy and creativity of their presentation of their wine to a Loudoun sommelier. But, they'll only have 15 minutes to create their wine, label and their presentation, so they'll have to work fast. With Lori assisting James and Jolyn, and Nate guiding Haley and Andrew, watch to see which team toasts success. "Whitewater & Moonshine Race": In this episode of "Get Lost in Loudoun," our challengers find themselves on the banks of the Potomac River where they meet Isaac, a guide from BTI Whitewater. Located in Loudoun Heights near Harpers Ferry, BTI offers guided whitewater rafting excursions, canoe trips, and tubing down the Potomac River. Our cast breaks up into two teams, Jolyn and James and Haley and Andrew, and race head-to-head down the Potomac, along the historic C&O Canal, and past historic Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, over class two and three rapids. Once down the river, the teams disembark and head up the mountain to the ruins of a historic estate that once housed and operated a moonshine still. There, they must solve a riddle and find something hidden in the ruins. The first team to solve the riddle, find the hidden object, and bring it to Blake wins. So, what are you waiting for? Get Lost! "Haunted Hunt": In this episode of "Get Lost in Loudoun," Andrew, Haley, and Jolyn get lost at Oatlands Plantation, a historic house and formal gardens south of Leesburg, Virginia. The challengers meet Blake in front of the mansion, and are introduced to Kirsten Edwards, curator of collections and education, who gives them a brief introduction to the historical significance of the estate. But our Get Lost crew isn't here for a history tour. It seems there have been some reports of strange happenings going on in the house. Enter paranormal researcher Max Ryan of PEPPR, or Partnership for Exploration of Paranormal Phenomenon and Research, which studies the scientific "whys" and "hows" behind this type of activity. Max plays some of the spooky recordings he has done with PEPPR at Oatlands. The challenge the cast faces during this episode is a search for three parts of a riddle associated with paranormal activity in the house. But this time, each challenger will be competing individually (i.e. alone!). And to make it even spookier, they aren't allowed to start until it gets dark outside. Who knows what awaits them inside this two-hundred-year-old house as they explore the main level, upstairs, and creepy basement? When they're finished, they're led outside to the dark gardens and asked to reveal the answers to the riddle. Please note: Only three of our cast members participated in this episode. (Maybe James was behind the strange goings-on in the house... there was a Scooby Doo episode like that once!)
