Doch Pontius Pilatus will ihn nicht verurteilen.
Oguri Shun (Crows Zero, Hana Yori Dango) stars as a mad emperor in acclaimed theater director Ninagawa Yukio's controversial stage production Caligula. Ninagawa's version of Albert Camus's famous play delves into the life, mind, and times of Caligula, the third emperor of the Roman Empire. Records of Caligula generally depict him as a cruel, wasteful, perverse, and insane tyrant who executed many, expended royal coffers, legislated on personal whims, and anointed himself a living god. First staged in 1945, Camus's influential play, however, interprets Caligula's actions not as insanity but as absurdity, deliberate and arbitrary abuse of authoritarian power in reaction to a meaningless world.
Wearing only a loincloth for much of the play, Oguri Shun bares his body and soul to portray the complex role of Caligula, breathing life into the historical anti-hero and the classic Camus production. Oguri Shun also previously appeared in Ninagawa's Shakespeare productions As You Like It, Hamlet, and The Comedy of Errors, but this is his most important and challenging stage role yet. This DVD release of Caligula records the November 21, 2007 performance at Bunkumura Theater Cocoon in Tokyo.

Here's the infamous Imperial Bordello scene, completely restructured and, for the first time, COMPLETELY FREE of Bob Guccione's superfluous extra porn!
This is an attempt to restore one of the more infamous deleted scenes from the 1976 "Caligula." Various different sources were used to piece the scene back to together, as well as putting some pre-existing moments back into sequence, so sorry for the uneven quality.
This scene was split in half by the inept editing crew that butchered the film (Macro's death scene was supposed to occur DURING Proculus' challenge) and the latter half was completely deleted when the film got released in US theatres. The scene was quite an important plot point, which would give more depth to the scene which follows it (Caligula sexually humiliating Livia and Proculus during their wedding.)
The Journey to the Capri restored as best as it possibly could at the moment, with a few trims and re-edits to pick up the pace. The torture scenes are finally back where they belong.
This an attempt at reconstructing one of the scenes in "Caligula." I've tried to pick up the pace, restructure the scene into a more clear narrative and add back some of the humour that would have made the film, as Tinto Brass had intended, into a historical black comedy akin to Ken Russell's "The Devils."
Euro News carried the following item live on 18th February, the Press Conference following a meeting of EU Foreign Ministers who spent a day discussing how the EU should deal with Kosovo's Independence announcement the previous day. This item deserved being immortalised on VEOH for the pleasure of seeing Dimitrij Rupel (Slovenian Foreign Minister, on behalf of the rotating presidency) Javier Solana (EU High Representative on Foreign Affairs), and Olli Rehn (EU Enlargement Commissioner) being made to feel distinctly uncomfortable at the questions they were being asked by a rather hostile press corps.
