Gilgit Baltistan, May 19, 2015: The media in Gilgit Baltistan continues to bear the brunt of mirroring the realities of the region, with most media houses constantly being muzzled by Pakistan, Journalists are under pressure to file biased reports. In a move to curb freedom of the press, political parties in Gilgit Baltistan have been piling pressure on the media persons to restrain them from reporting the truth about the region.They are not only harassing media houses, but also obstructing the freedom of the press by denying journalists their rights. Gilgit Baltistan, being occupied by Pakistan six decades ago has always been treated harshly. Islamabad has stationed a large number of its paramilitaries in the region to ward off challenges to its illegal occupation. Not only the institution of media but even the social working organisations are being targeted by these puppet administration and as a result of which they works under heavy scrutiny and without the freedom to report or articulate the grievances of people, the denial of civil liberties and gross violation of human rights. The rising attacks on journalists and the suppression of media freedom has forced many to join protests against Pakistani misrule.
