And what better way to reach that goal than by sharing my own mistakes in Italian with you?
One day, many years ago, I stopped by my local poultry shop to buy some chicken breasts.
The place was crowded with customers and so I waited for my turn in line.
After a while it was finally my turn and I made my way up to the counter.
“I’d like a kilo of chicken breast” I asked the butcher, or so I thought that’s what I had asked.
What I had actually asked for was “peto di pollo” which in English is “chicken fart”.
Suddenly the place became quiet. You could have heard a pin drop.
“Uh oh”, I thought, “what have I said now?”
The butcher proceeded to take a chicken out of the display case.
He held it up and squeezed it as he blew a raspberry at me.
My mistake became clear to me at once.
I could have died right there on the spot.
