The Banner Elk Winery resides just outside the quaint town of Banner Elk, North Carolina. The Banner Elk winery is the first commercial winery built in Avery and Watauga counties. In July 2006, the age-old winemaking tradition officially made its debut as the creations of Vintner Dr. Richard Wolfe starting making wine and since his debut has won many medals in competition for their Cabernet Sauvignon and Blueberry wines. The winery was built on a 20 acre working blueberry farm which has been recognized as the premier blueberry farm in North Carolina. The Banner Elk Winery is open for wine tastings Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m. The winery not only offers wine tasting but educational tours which include instruction in the various steps and processes on how wine is made.
