A Purina Pets for Pet People survey of more than 180 Adopt-A-Pet animal shelters and rescue organizations nationwide identified the Top 10 most important things adopters can do to make sure they have a positive and successful adoption experience. According to the survey, the number one step is to make a real commitment to care for the new pet for its entire life, just as they would with a child. Prospective pet owners can download the Permanent Pet Adoption Checklist and enjoy a video featuring Victoria Stilwell, author and host of "It's Me or the Dog," offering advice from the checklist as well as her own pet adoption tips.
