One of the most important things George Washington ever did was to quit. At the end of his presidency, Washington was approached to be king of America and start a royal dynasty here like they had in England. A lot of important people wanted him to be king and he could have easily assumed that position. George Washington thought this new country should be governed by its people and not have a king. To his honorable credit, he refused to become king and resigned to go back to civilian life. This farewell address was a turning point in American history.
