Tens of thousands of Americans assembled in West Potomac Park to witness the official dedication of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial on the National Mall. Among the honored speakers at the ceremonies were President Barack Obama, members of the King Family, civil rights leaders including Reverands Joseph Lowery and Jesse Jackson, John Lewis and Ambassador Andrew Young, and GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson. The General Motors Foundation played a major role in this historic event by donating more than $10 million to the Memorial since fundraising began in 2006.
