LaVonna Marie Young was born and raised in Southern California of black and Crete/ Blackfoot Native American heritage. She attended Hollywood High Performing Arts alongside such famous classmates as the R&B singer Brandy. Although she was a jazz/modern dance major, she quickly began to tailor and master her natural God-given songwriting abilities. A few years earlier, during her junior high school years in Carson, California she had been taken under the wing of producers and friends of her famous grandfather, 50's and 60's rocker Thurston Harris ("Little Bitty Pretty One"). Her demos they produced accompanied with an impressive audition won her a spot as a student at Hollywood Performing Arts. Soon, LaVonna began sneaking away from school (which she doesn't recommend) to audition and perform at dance clubs like The Arena.
