As the family of John Ritter takes a $67 million lawsuit to trial for the actor’s death more than four years ago, the case is putting a spotlight on one of the biggest problems facing the medical profession today: the alarming rate of medical misdiagnosis.
“It’s been estimated that the frequency of diagnostic error in patients with known disease is 30 percent in radiology, 39 percent in pathology and 24 percent in lab results,” says Edward Coleman, M.D., professor and vice chairman of the department of radiology, Duke University Medical Center.”
