In 1931, a great flood struck China killing millions by famine and disease . Lyt Harnsberger, an American Presbyterian Missionary lead the rebuilding of the Grand Canal levess at Gaoyou with his partner General Wang. Nearly 80,000 died in North Jiangsu as the flood turned the once prosperous farmlands into an inland sea 10,000 miles square. On Dec. 30, 2005 some 73 year later, Steve Harnsberger brought his father's story back from America and joined the people of Gaoyou in dedicating a museum to remember the 1931 Flood, now known as the greatest flood in recorded history. This Gaoyou TV newscast in Chinese describes the days newsworthy event and tells the story of the story of Gaoyou's total destruction retunred through three generations of the Harnsberger family in a mini-documentary. Using photographs taken by Charles Lindbergh, the people honored five heroes whose work saved the lives of 5 million: General Wang, Hermit Lin, Thomas "Lyt" Harnsberger and Charles and Anne Lindbergh.
