Ya know, the funny thing about this is Tamao's lack of violent impulses

Basicly, Tamao wants Ranmaru to stop cheating on her, so she acts the way she believes Noi or Sunako would. Whe it doesn't wor, she breaks off the marrige since she can't keep Ranmaru's intrest. But, when Ranmaru sees her crying, he realizes how much he hurt her. He confronts Tamao, but she refuses to take up the marrige again, thinking that Ranmaru doesn't really care. However, when Ranmaru tells Tamao he loves her she falls back into love with him, and takes up the marrige again.
