Mark Hurd's time is over as CEO at Hewlett-Packard Co., but the legacy of his acquisition acumen stands as a testament to a cost-conscious, deliberate and measured style of M&A at the technology giant. Since his departure in August, the company's dealmaking team has been operating in overdrive, most notably in the bidding war with Dell Inc. for cloud-computing-based network storage provider 3Par Inc. but also for its purchase of network security provider ArcSight Inc. The challenge for the next CEO of HP, The Deal magazine's 2010 Most Admired Corporate Dealmaker in the information technology category, will be to acquire and integrate acquisitions in a way that will stimulate top-line growth.
