This is one of the most common phobias, characterised by a strong emotional response and desire to get away from spiders, before you're consciously aware you're doing it. For this reason, many people consider phobias like this "irrational".
Spider phobias are not irrational. There's a clear neurological explanation why you're reacting the way you are.
You would have learned your phobia in one of 3 ways:
1. You had a bad experience with a spider.
2. You watched someone else have a bad experience with a spider and felt their reaction as if it were your own.
3. You learned through family, friends, peer group and culture that spiders were something to be scared of.
