June 25, 2012 - "Toledo Navy Week Activities" - Deputy Chief Thomas Jaksetic Toledo Fire and Rescue Department Deputy Chief Thomas Jaksetic was appointed to the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department in 1984 and currently has oversight of the Homeland Security/Special Operations and Training Bureaus. Tom is a recipient of the State of Ohio Medal of Valor and Fire House National Heroism Awards. Tom was appointed to the Homeland Security/Special Operations Bureau in 2002 and tasked with building a regional rescue capability and oversight of the department’s technical rescue teams. Tom was promoted to battalion chief in 2008 and given additional responsibilities to include grant writing and grant oversight upon which he submitted and was awarded a $2.9 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant for construction of a new fire station. Fire Station 6 will be dedicated this September 11, 2012. Tom maintains Ohio Department of Homeland Security clearance and is a member of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, USCG Area Maritime Security Committee, and a number of state technical advisory committees. Tom also is responsible for major event planning and response. Most recently, Tom was appointed by Mayor Michael Bell to serve has the City of Toledo’s point of contact for Navy Week Toledo.
