Warts are growths on the skin that are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). About 75% of people will experience a wart at some point throughout their lives. There are several different types of warts. Common round warts appear on the fingers, toes, and backs of knees. Other different types of warts include plantar warts that appear on the bottom of the foot, flat warts that can appear in large numbers on the face, legs, or other areas of the body, periungual warts which appear around or under the nail, and filiform warts that frequently occur on the face.
