Escape to Paradise is little more than an excuse to watch and listen to Bobby Breen sing – fortunately, Bobby Breen is one of the finest performers in early American cinema. Breen began his singing career at the age of nine and was an international film sensation by age ten. Though the feature attraction is Breen’s extraordinary voice, his screen presence and general charm carried him to the next level of fame. Escape to Paradise puts Breen as a taxi driver in South America, which makes a pretty backdrop for his singing. Thanks to level headed direction from Erle C. Kenton, the focus doesn’t stray much from Breen and Escape to Paradise is a resounding success.
