2011 might be the year that the Walkmen finally hit the big time. Their latest release âLisbonâ has been lauded by music scribes everywhere (five out of five stars from all the British monthlies) and in the driving garage rocker âAngela Surf Cityâ the band have a track as powerful as the Strokesâ âModern Ageâ, albeit 10 years after that band kicked off the New York garage rock revival. For their Letterman appearance in January the Walkmen played a more subdued song âJuvenilesâ, the leadoff track from their awesome 2010 release.
The collaboration between Wanda Jackson and Jack White continues apace with a series of TV appearances to promote âThe Party Ainât Overâ. They played âFunnel of Loveâ on Conan on January 25th, and âShakinâ All Overâ on Letterman on January 20th. As we note in the Vlog, weâd love to see them perform their cover of Dylanâs âThunder On The Mountainâ on their next TV slot.
