Easiest Way to Plant Grass
In any lawn establishment program, the ever-present problems are what time is the right time to plant, what is the right depth and how to get âgood seed-soil contact.â To accomplish this, a lot of labor-intensive methods are used during the year. Hydroseeding provides a wood mulch that surrounds the seed to provide it with moisture so it will germinate. A thin top-dressing with screened soil can provide a seed bed where grass seed can germinate. Dethatching machines cut slots in the soil. This takes time to then rake out the thatch that is pulled up prior to planting the seed. The most labor-intensive method is to rototill the area, rake out whatever rocks are pulled up (this is New England, after all!), and then prepare the soil for planting. All of these methods are certainly much more work than dormant seeding.
Dormant seeding is planting grass seed when the seed is dormant. It is taking advantage of the soil conditions being opened by the frost to make the job easier. In ... Distributed by Tubemogul.
