The hijacked plane never reached its intended target, presumed to be the U.S. Capitol or the White House. Instead it crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Since that fateful day, more than a million tourists have visited the site in rural Shanksville. Members of the local United Methodist church organized volunteers to give informal tours. A decade later, these ambassadors still share the story of what happened on property many consider âsacred ground.â
