Beyond the Northern Horizon is the true story of Erick Connell an E.M.T. III living in Seattle who worked for an ambulance company answering 911 calls in the greater Seattle/Tacoma area. He found a job as a medic and deck hand first on a crab boat off the coast of KamchatkaâÃÂÃÂs Sea of Okhotsk what was then the U.S.S.R. Later as the medic aboard a 300 ft. trawler fishing the Bering Sea. This is the story of his amazing five year adventure and grueling experiences treating the crews who work the worldâÃÂÃÂs most hazardous professions on the most dangerous seas on Earth. Now 54, Erick Connell was born in Arizona and served in the Coast Guard aboard an icebreaker in the 70âÃÂÃÂs. In 1989 Erick graduated from firefighter/E.M.T. school in California and worked as an E.M.T. III in Seattle for two years before returning to sea as a shipâÃÂÃÂs medic. He has lived in Alaska for over 25 years. He has an AssociateâÃÂÃÂs Degree in culinary arts from the University of Alaska is currently earning a BachelorâÃÂÃÂs Degree in Construction Management in Anchorage. He has worked as a medic in the Bering Sea, on oil rigs in the Alaskan Arctic and on board commercial diving vessel in Prince William Sound, and in the construction trades all over Alaska
