Video of quick Mail.app searches in Mac OS X Leopard on a MacBook Pro 2.33 Ghz / 3GB RAM / MTRON 32GB SSD drive. In the background, Aperture is building thumbnails for 1024 RAW images. The RAW images are on a 160GB IDE hard disk, and the Aperture library and Mail library are on the SSD drive (which is also the boot drive).
