Japan was in the ascendancy and Okazaki brought the house down in thr 68th minute when he scored his team's second goal with a cheeky backheel despite being tightly marked by Trent Sainsbury.
Cahill and Bresciano came on in a bid to restore some life in the Socceroos' attack but Japan, buoyed by a boisterous crowd, held firm and was able to coast to victory despite a late, late goal from the New York Red Bulls star who headed in a long cross from Behich, who had a good game.

The first half ended with the Socceroos very much holding their own in midfield, where Endo was largely inconspicuous.
Ryan was called into action twice in the space of two minutes early in the second half to foil Kagawa and Shinji Okazaki as Japan appeared to up the ante.
Japan took the lead on the hour when Honda floated an inswinging corner and the ball evaded the entire Australian defence and substitute Yasuyuki Konno was left with all the time in the world to head the ball past Ryan.
