George Hawkins, General Manager of DC Water, has launched an ambitious agenda at DC Water that compliments a 10-year program to improve aging infrastructure and comply with ever more stringent regulatory requirements. DC Water is designing and implementing the Clean Rivers Project to nearly eliminate overflows of sewage and stormwater to the Anacostia, Potomac and Rock Creek. They are also investing $950 million to achieve the next level of nutrient reductions and help restore the Chesapeake Bay. In addition, DC Water is implementing a $400 million digester program to help manage solids from reclaimed water that will become the region's biggest source of renewable energy, reduce the volume of biosolids by almost half, and disinfect the biosolids to be clean enough to sell as fertilizer at retail stores. Mr. Hawkins has also gained approval from the Board of Directors to triple the rate to replace water and sewer infrastructure. Prior to joining DC Water, Mr. Hawkins served as Director of the District Department of the Environment (DDOE), and was Executive Director of New Jersey Future, a non-profit organization which, under his leadership, came to be recognized as the state's foremost advocacy group promoting smart growth. Mr. Hawkins began his career practicing law for the Boston firm Ropes & Gray, and is a member of the Bar in Massachusetts and the District of Columbia.

Photographer Ms Gulu, shot a few rolls of film of the Newport back bay. Later I arranged the prints to create a panaramic view of the whole back bay from east to west. I then digitally composed the prints into a full panarama Poster presentation. Finally I created the PSA in AfterEffects at OCC for local cable company. Douglas Bader of AnyBodyCanMakeChange.org organized a community "Bike the Back Bay" event which helped educate people of all ages in the communities that effect the watersheds which feed into the back bay. Neighborhoods "from the mountains, the cities, to the sea." learned the importance of keeping our precious watershed clean. And how AnyBody Can Make Change. Raising the quality of all our lives.

Over 30,000 Homebuilders Gotta Be Up To Something...
This year's rendition of the Annual Oshkosh Aerial Love-Fest was a watershed event for all things homebuilding. In addition to the usual assortment of THOUSANDS of amazing personally-crafted experimental aircraft in attendance, the 30,000th such bird was found and celebrated.

Paul Poberezny was asked how he felt about the milestone after 55 years since he founded EAA. His answer, "unbelievable, simply unbelievable." to which he gave a thumbs up. EAA Founder Paul Poberezny commented ...
The Chesapeake Bay is the nation's largest watershed. At seven thousand square miles it supports more than 36 hundred species of plants, fish and animals, with 15 million people living near its basin.
While it's one of the world's most important watersheds, it's also one of the dirtiest. Recent surveys have revealed more than 80 percent of the water does not contain enough oxygen in the summer, killing fish, crabs, oysters and plant life. The Chesapeake Bay Initiative, a multi-state agreement, was developed to change that.
As part of the agreement, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia have agreed to reduce nitrogen and phosphorous discharge into the bay area by 2010. Over 70 wastewater facilities will have to enhance their nutrient removal process by using more natural methods, like bacteria, instead of harmful chemicals. These efforts are part of a larger commitment to restore the bay to its original condition.

This is a self-generative bit of music basically. I wrote a program, sampled everyone in the room, people blowing into the microphone, stuff like that, and then what it did was it played eight copies of that, and then it pitch-shifted them, so it played them at different rates. You can choose which bits to loop and which bits not to loop and constantly build up an ever-changing structure, but you're not exactly in charge wholly of the structure; the song basically makes itself up due to the software that we used. So that's basically how it was made.
I went off in town and took loads of pictures of geometric shapes, reflections and bricks and stuff like that, basically with the idea of putting the two together.
