The Road Not Taken - for Chorus with Piano, Op. 77 (2001). Here's a performance of my choral setting of Robert Frost's famous poem. It's performed here by the San Jose Symphonic Choir. I strongly identify with this poem, as I can remember a time in my teenage years when I decided to dedicate my life to music - and I've never been sorry. The sheet music is available in a self-published edition (that includes The Pasture) on Amazon.
Dante Aligheri, from the public-domain historical epic poem is re-imagined as a bad-ass templar and warrior who kicks fifteen sades of ass from hell (literally!!!) in this animated epic. Check out the overkills!!!
This is a song I wrote in 1988. The poem is by one of my favorite poets, E. E. Cummings. The song is performed here by Laura Anderson, soprano and Rick Yramategui, piano. Contact me at dvic56@aol.com for info on sheet music.
A song based on a poem by Rumi, called "Whatever Happens". The last part of the song uses few Arabic verses from the Sufi master Al-Hallaj (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mansur_Al-Hallaj). 99% of religious people consider their religion as the main source of moral values. Others who may or may not be religious, may think moral values can partly change from one culture to another, and therefore deciding whether a given deed is good or bad may not be a simple question. Obviously there are things that are simple and clear, like helping a poor person for example, all the cultures of the world would agree that it is a good deed indeed. But not every single deed can be easily categorized as evil or good. Religious people of course believe that one can make a clear cut between what is evil and what is good, based on the principles of the religion (that's what a religion is for after all. If a religion cannot decide what is bad and what is good, that's not a religion). These are the people in the middle. On the extreme left, the people who control Hollywood and many other institutions, think differently about moral values: they think there is nothing absolute about them and given the power in their hands, they strongly believe they can shape and recreate their own moral values, the way they see fit. On the extreme right, you have the Sufi master Rumi, who thinks the complete opposite: Rumi believes that moral values are completely absolute and should not change from one culture to another. Not only that, Rumi even believes that moral values, in their holy absoluteness, are even independent from religion. Rumi expresses this in the poem by saying "Even if the world is godless, and in chaos, show me your anchor".
Wonder, a song based on a famous poem by the Sufi master Ibn Arabi. Sufism is not a branch of Islam, but the deep core engine of Islam, which deals with wisdom and truth at a very deep level, like the mysticism of every religion. A good analogy would be this: if Islam is the mathematics taught in elementary schools and in High schools, then Sufism would be the mathematics of post doctoral level. All religions, at a very deep level, seem to converge towards the same thing, which is pure love, mercy, compassion and forgiveness. The core of this convergence is God, and He is the source of such a pure love. That's what Ibn Arabi is talking about in this poem, whose lyrics can be translated as follows: There was a time I would not make an effort to know those whose faith were not close to mine. But now, my heart has grown tolerant and capable of taking on all forms. It is a pasture for gazelles, An abbey for monks. A table for the Torah. Kaaba for the pilgrim. My religion is love. Whichever the route love's caravan shall take, That is my religion, my creed and my faith
"Tito and Me" is a 1992 Yugoslavian comedy film. The film was made during one of the most difficult periods in the history of the Balkans, at a time when conflict broke out and the civil war began in Socialistic Republic of Croatia. Its quirky humor has marked the beginning of the end of Socialistic Yugoslavia. The movie is set in the communist ruled Yugoslavia during the 1950s. It celebrates, but in some aspects it also criticizes The Yugoslav State in the early fifties. Zoran is a slightly overweight 10-year-old living in an overcrowded home that his parents share with his grandmother, aunt and uncle. So, conflicts at home are inevitable. This is a story of a ten year-old boy who, as most of the children in Yugoslavia of the fifties, can hardly imagine his everyday life without the great national leader - Marshal Tito of Yugoslavia. Well, this chubby little boy might be a little more obsessed with Tito than other kids. He unexpectedly wins the first price for the literary composition on the given topic "Do I love Tito, and why?" The boy was inspired to write a poem and his reward is the participation in a march to Tito's Homeland. He claims in his work that he loves Tito even more than his parents, which makes them desperate. He does not understand what is so confusing and weird in his love towards the inviolable Yugoslav leader. This march will be a difficult temptation for him. Since he is a plump kid, for the first time separated from his caring family, and since he is forced to care for himself for the first time in his life, and not being used for a long hike, this march becomes a living hell for him. In addition, during the march, his best girl-friend falls in love with another, older boy. And it seems his teacher (a man who is there march-leader) doesn't like him.

Anyone Lived in a Pretty How Town, Op. 69 - for Chorus with Piano (poem: E. E. Cummings). This work was written in 1988, and was originally for soprano solo. It's performed here by the San Jose Symphonic Choir. Contact me at dvic56@aol.com for info on sheet music.
This song was written in 1985, after a personal loss. The poem by e. e. cummings presents various ways to see and remember things – and to see what is true. In the end, perhaps it’s in “forgetting” (or letting go) that we can remember what something truly means. The song is performed here so beautifully by Katherine McKalip, soprano and Cindy Fox, piano. The recording was of poor quality, and I’ve done what I could to clean it up and enhance the audio. Contact me at dvic56@aol.com for info on sheet music.

Hello Friends, I have tried to cover the National Anthem of India, "Jana Gana Mana" to celebrate the 67th year of Independence Day. Its without any Karaoke track. I am sure you all will like it.
Written in highly Sanskritised (Tatsama) Bengali, Jana Gana Mana is the first of five stanzas of a Brahmo hymn composed and scored by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. It was first sung in Calcutta Session of the Indian National Congress on 27th December 1911. "Jana Gana Mana" was officially adopted by the Constituent Assembly as the Indian national anthem on 24th January 1950. 27th December 2011 marked the completion of 100 years of Jana Gana Mana since it was sung for the first time.
The original poem written by Rabindranath Tagore was translated into Hindi by Abid Ali. The original Hindi version of the Jana Gana Mana, translated by Ali and based on the poem by Tagore, was a little different. It was "Sukh Chain Ki Barkha Barase, Bharat Bhagya Hai Jaga....".
'Travel With Us' is a visual poem told through a compilation of documentary footage captured in urban and rural Thailand by The SOLD Project team. By intercutting images of the children in the prevention program and footage of Thailand’s red light districts, the fragility of innocence in Southeast Asia is presented in “Travel With Us,” while simultaneously conveying an inspirational message that by living out their potential, any individual can play a role in putting an end to the tragedy.
“Salam-e-Zainab”, a beautiful poem by Adeel Zaidi describing the divine words of Bibi Zainab is truly an asset. The poetry is recited by Sudhir Narain, a singer of Agra India.

In recent years, scholars of linguistics have found numerous examples of surprising numerical correlation of words in the Qur'an. Composition of such numerical correlations during the whole text of the Qur'an that was revealed over a span of 23 years is beyond any human literary capability, dexterity or command. Literary persons often show their talents and command of language by composing prose and poetry in which choice of words and their numerical values refer to or convey a certain connotation. All such examples consist of only a single word, a single sentence or a short passage. These items have no relation to one another or share a common theme of a poem or passage. In contrast, numerical correlations of words in the Qur'an are not confined to a passage or chapter but run throughout the entire text of the Qur'an. A few examples are shown in the video.
