Tony Quan aka TEMPT1 was a graffiti artist in LA. He was paralyzed with ALS in 2003. His method of communicating was via a $15k+ eyetracker system that allowed him to type; TEMPT1's drawing career seemed over.
Enter our speaker, the artist Zach Lieberman (http://thesystemis.com/). Working with collaborators he built a $50 eyetracker called the EyeWriter (http://thesystemis.com/projects/eyewriter/). TEMPT1 was able to use this to draw again. His digital graffiti twas projected on buildings by the EyeWriter team live.
Zach does not work a lone. He builds his art as though he were in a laboratory. For this collaboration he teamed up with members of Free Art and Technology (FAT), OpenFrameworks, the Graffiti Research Lab, and The Ebeling Group communities. John grew up in Utah, and met Larry (his step father) in 1991. Larry owned a HVAC (heating & air-conditioning) and Appliance Repair company. John worked for him off and on through high school, in the summers mostly. Through 15 hour days, Larry taught him that owning your own business is hard work. John worked in Customer Service selling vending machines, until Larry asked him to come back and work for him. He needed him to get his accounts receivable brought in and set up an inventory management system.ÃÂ Within 3 months John collected $45,000 in past due accounts and had the inventory management system in place and running. At this same time, Terri was Larry Office Manager. She was in charge of all of the invoicing and billing, book-keeping, advertising, and many other day to day responsibilities involved in running a business.n January of 2002, John fell off a step ladder while helping a family member paint. He shattered his right elbow and had to have it replaced with a stainless steel one. The surgery was a success, but left nerve damage, and his right hand was paralyzed for four months.ÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂ He was not able to work or even find work because of his injury. Had we owned our own business at that time, he could have still been able to work and bring in income to take care of his family. This once again reinforced the desire to be self-employed.

Day 21 of the 39 Day Challenge. Conquering worry.
Ever since I was a little kid, I've been a worrier. My Mom used to say that I would worry about everything, even stuff not about me.
The fact is that I've carried that forward into my adult life as well. I have actually become adicted to worry. I could not find a way to get out of the worry habit.
Until I spoke to my personal coach about it. And what he told me and the simple exercise he gave me has changed my life.
He gave me these four steps that will help to break me of the habit of worry:
1) Recognize and admit that you are doing it to yourself when it is happening
2) Breathe. Simply take a deep breath. Allow your body to become still.
3) Go back to sensation - touch, taste, smell, etc. Feel your arms on your chair, your hands on the steering wheel, or smell some incense, essential oil or perfume. Allow your mind to become present with your surroundings.
4) Reconnect with the divine. Regain your connection to your true self, your genius, your higher being.
By following these steps, you will actually reconnect the neural pathways in your brain to form an entirely new habit and at the same time break the old one.
A truly powerful, yet simple exercise that has taken me out of the paralyzed state of worry and into a free state of possibility.

Before her spinal cord injury, Donnas life was pretty typical. She was married, had a 4-year old son, and worked full time as a corporate reference librarian.
