Another tournament match from NJPW's Best of the Super Juniors 1998, this time time featuring fan-favorite Shinjiro Ohtani in somewhat of an underdog role against then-2 time winner (now 3 after his victory in 2001), Jyushin "Thunder" Liger. For NJPW juniors action, it doesn't get much better than this.
Features:
Koji Kanemoto vs. Yuji Yasuraoka - Kanemoto apparently hates Yasuraoka with the heat of a thousand exploding suns, but the young representative of WAR refuses to back down.
Jyushin "Thunder" Liger vs. Masakazu Fukuda - This would sadly be Fukuda's first and last BOSJ appearance before passing away only a few years later. Don't skip this just because he doesn't have the name recognition of an Ohtani or Kanemoto, because he takes Liger to the absolute limit.
Shinjiro Ohtani vs. El Samurai - ElSam shows NO RESPECT for Ohtani and Ohtani returns the favor by dumping Samurai on his head as often as possible. Heavily clipped, so what you end up with is all the awesome near-falls and the super-hot finish.
El Samurai vs. Tatsuhito Takaiwa - Also clipped, but a very good introduction to the junior wrecking ball that is Takaiwa.
Ohtani vs. Takaiwa - So good, they showed up twice! Veteran fan-favorite Ohtani takes the questionable strategy of trying to match power with the young upstart Takaiwa.
