Prior to becoming the most popular Canadian female rock singer in the 1980s, Luba sang with a Ukrainian group. They did traditional songs in a 1970s pop-rock style. The name of that group was Zoria, meaning star, featuring Lubomyra. Her name is Lubomyra Kowalchuk, and they were from the Montreal area. These are nine songs from their 1970s Ukrainian album titled Zoria. 1) Sinu, kochky Letyat - Son, the ducks are flying overhead 2) Divlusha Ya Na Nebo - I look at the sky 3) Ya Ivana Kupala - about John 4) Hutsulko Ksenyu - about Ksenia 5) U Karpatakh Osin Khodit - Autumn In the Carpathian Mountains. Intro with long mountain horns. 6) Oy Ti Nichenka - Night 7) Zhito Maty - about rye. Is this as good as The Beatles? 8) Khodila Lisom - I Walked In the Woods 9) Tsihani Stoyaly - Gypsies (To hear more than the preview you need the Veoh TV downloader)
I recorded this on my CD, "The Gift", all Christmas Carols except for "Ode To Joy". This arrangement is slightly different and of course it's a video. Every time I play this I think of The Beatles and "Help".
He couldn't properly be considered part of the British Invasion — he never had a hit in the U.S. or the U.K. — but Screaming Lord Sutch laid some unheralded groundwork for the phenomenon. With a rock & horror act based to a large degree on Screamin' Jay Hawkins, David "Lord" Sutch was one of the first genuine rock & roll longhairs, and his bands employed such sterling instrumentalists as Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Ritchie Blackmore, Nicky Hopkins, and Mitch Mitchell before they became famous. His early-'60s singles — mostly over-the-top Halloween novelties or covers of early rock and R&B standards — are genuinely energetic and fun performances that rank among the few out-and-out raunchy rock & roll records waxed in Britain before the ascension of the Beatles.

Torley gets closer his heroes and talks really fast. Occasionally, slow. Amidst a field of hyper + special FX: fruits, Justice + Kate Bush, "classic" electronic music, Carl Sagan (and other great explainers), and M dot Strange's We Are the Strange all make an appearance.
Today's topics:
* what is your 2nd-favorite fruit?
* Elvis or Beatles?
* who are your techno influences?
* which music do you listen to now (when you have time)?
* what are you reading right now?
* would you like to talk about the movie we watched?

Interesting to note: The Trumpet player, John Dodgshon, and The Clarinetist, John Springer, player both hail from Liverpool, England and knew the Beatles in their early days at The Cavern Club!
They used to open up at The Original Cavern Club when The Beatles were just starting out!
John Springer said that George Harrison was actually a banjoist in a Dixieland group for a while too and knew him, etc.

The middle school students wanted to practice The Beatles' "Yesterday" -- and have me sing it solo, no less. They dialed it up and my co-teacher found their lyric sheets, so away we go.

-Brooke White sings 'Let it be'
Brooke does a great interpretation of this Beatles song,
she just keeps getting better every time she goes on stage.
If you like her you might also want to check
the other video I uploaded, she sings 'Love is a battlefield'.

This is the entire documentary of The Beatles' concert at the Shea Stadium, New York in 1965; it's the entire video, though not the best quality; still, it's a very cool documentary from which you can actually see what a Beatles concert meant back then; after the show there are a few interviews with the fab four and some more live footages. Enjoy!
