This video commemorates the 60th anniversary of the first sub 4 minute mile. It has been produced by Iffley Road, a new British running wear brand(http://www.iffleyroad.com/). On May 6th 1954 Roger Bannister traveled to the Iffley Road track in Oxford to attempt what no other athlete had done before. To run one mile in under 4 minutes. In the US and Australia 2 other athletes, Wes Santee and John Landy, were also within striking distance of the sub 4 minute mile. May 6th was a cold and windy day, hardly perfect running conditions. But shortly before Bannister's attempt the wind dropped. The race was on. Paced to perfection by Chris Chataway and Chris Brasher, Bannister broke the barrier in 3:59:4. History was made. The current mile record stands at 3:43.13 set by Moroccan Hicham El Guerrouj in 1999. Svetlana Masterkova has the women's mile record of 4:12.56. To mark the 60th anniversary of the 4 minute mile Men's Running magazine attempted to run 1 mile in under 4 minutes as a 4 x 400 relay at the very same track at Iffley Road. The team wore Iffley Road Track White running tops and Dover White running shorts. Inspired by this momentous achievement, Iffley Road is a new company, specialising in stylish, technical running wear. Founded in 2013, Iffley Road is the first high-end British running wear brand, creating elegant and understated kit made from highly technical fabrics. Created by runners for runners, the brand philosophy is simple: running should be free, uncomplicated and beautiful. This is represented in a small but carefully refined collection of essential running pieces. Invest in the best and you need fewer items.
Six months ago. Manchester, England. A man falls from a third story window. Did he jump or was he pushed? Frank Bannister knows. He's the only witness, and he aims to keep it that way. It should've been David Marx in flat 311. The hit-and-run driver who killed his father. Frank wasn't looking for vengeance; only justice. Now he'll find neither. Somehow, an innocent man has been killed. A man Frank has never met and has no connection with, but who is more dangerous dead than he ever was alive. In 1954, Roger Bannister was the first man to run a sub-4-minute mile. Within 3 years, 16 other runners had also. The psychological barrier had been broken.
The one arm handstand pushup holds a similar mystique. While some say it is impossible, others are busy training for it.
I've been working my one arm handstand a lot, and my pressing strength is the best it has been. Here now is some work with the assisted one arm handstand pushup. I'll say I prefer the 2-3 finger assist the best.
We had a great NW Audiovisualists Multi-Touch Visual Technology extravaganza! event in Portland hosted at Second Story http://secondstory.com . Check out the blog post at http://www.timreha.com and visit http://www.nwav.org
