On July 17 2011, Greenpeace activists and residents of Bengaluru staged a protest vehemently opposing the decision of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the Bangalore Municipal Corporation to fell over 300 trees to facilitate a signal-free corridor on Sankey Road. Similar projects are being taken at 5 other sites in the city.
