Beanstockd hit up the 10th Annual Global Green Sustainable Design Awards at the Chelsea Piers in New York. The awards recognize outstanding eco-friendly design and advancements working to protect cities by stemming global warming. Among the eco-conscious attendees were actors Michelle Trachtenberg, Brian Cox, Tate Donovan, and Tony Plana.
We chatted with Matt Peterson, President and CEO of Global Green USA, actor Tony Plana of Ugly Betty, and fashion designer Nicole Miller on their thoughts of the night's event and the environmental movement.
Chet snoops in and finds out how eco-model extraordinaire, activist, television host, and social entrepreneur Summer Rayne Oakes lives. Check out her Madagascar Hissing Cockroach, elephant painted dress, bug-inspired jewelry pieces, and much more! Snuggle up in Summer Rayne's hammock, but don't get too comfortable. She'll kick you out if you're not nice.

As Matt Petersen, president and CEO of Global Green noted, âall Americans can do something about climate change, and protect our most precious natural resource - our kids. . . by creating green schools and healthy classrooms.â Luke Perry, kept it easy by warming us up with a tap dance, and went on to explain how he and his kids (who keep him in check) do everything they can to stay green in 90210, and usually the solution is simplification.

Winner of the Founders Award and founder of Ecofabulous, Zem Joaquin, (in a Mr Larkin milk dress) spoke to us about how fashion can become more sensible to sustainability, and also more accessible, even in this economic climate. Looking sharp as ever, and even dreamier in person - Adrien Grenier reminded us that school is cool, and to listen up to kids- they are making major waves these days. Personally, he likes to take cold showers because of its invigorating health benefits and an inevitable shift to shorter showers. http://www.beanstockd.com
Austin Nichols of One Tree Hill told us riding his scooter makes him a lot less angry than driving a car through L.A. He hopes we can stoke some kids to âget revolutionaryâ and make their own green demands from their schools, parents, etc. since they are exponentially greener than older generations.

Asher Roth flows with Beanstockd's own Chet Cannon. Spazmatic's bowtie is no match for Chet. We find out from Kobayashi's translator who eats more. Beanstockd loves Willard's red shoes, as he loves the bowtie. Spike Guys Choice '09 This Sunday June 21 at 10/9c http://www.beanstockd.com
We heard from Josh Tickell about his movie, Fuel, and his partnership with Global Green to drive a veggie-fueled school bus on tour around the country to teach kids about going green.
Kari Whitman, designer to the stars, talks about decorating with recycled furniture at Jessica Alba's crib.
Gavin Rossdale had solar panels installed on his house, and he and Gwen Stefani (also in attendance) teach their young, fashionable fam recycling and reusing. As the UK rep, he also let us know the eco efforts across the pond are going splendidly. They now have compost “rubbish bins” as well as recycling.
Tia Lessin and Carl Deal, directors of Oscar nominated documentary, Trouble the Water, gave us insight about their film on the resilient community that emerged after Hurricane Katrina in the 9th Ward District, New Orleans.
Multi-talented actress/singer/producer/model, Katerina Graham lets us know that she supports Obama and Global Green's School Initiative.
Heather Graham, always one to come out for a cause, looked totally down to earth in a glowing, California girl way. She noted the enormous magnitude of what will happen to our planet unless we all start acting fast. We noted that it sounds so much better when she says it.
Beanstockd interviews Dominic Monaghan and Matt Petersen at 2009 Global Green Pre-Oscar Party.
Dominic Monaghan is well-versed in the green way, having gained experience on the greenest place in all the land – the Shire. We’re positive hobbits are eco-conscious, and being stranded on an island (in Lost) would certainly make one ponder sustainability. Being totally at home in natural environments, Dominic has made the commitment to composting in his own habitat, and participates in a number of green movements, to continue the conversation wherever he goes.
Matt Petersen, the founder and president of Global Green USA, told the audience, “we spend more money on energy in schools than we do on textbooks.” In an article he recently wrote, Petersen says, “As the Congress deliberates the largest stimulus package in history, there is no single better investment that we can make than to help maximize the potential learning and productivity of our children,” a point echoed ...
