More at http://umc.org/Videos/ Celebrities like Bono and George Clooney have made malaria more of a news story recently-- but for families struggling in Africa, the disease is an ever-present threat. The United Methodist Church is bringing hope to villagers in a remote part of the DRC, with more bed nets and a clinic for care. Sadly, the aid comes too late for one woman who lost most of her loved ones to a mosquito's bite. More at http://imaginenomalaria.org
And here we go into the area known as practical theology which also means applying this stuff we talk about here in our daily lives. And this time, inspired by that San Fransisco-area mommy who thought it was perfectly all right to inject her 8-year-old daughter with Botox "to get rid of wrinkles". After hearing about it a number of times, I realized that there was a much bigger issue here.
Wells go down deep below the surface and bring stuff up to the surface for the benefit of those on the surface. A bridge crosses a gap. The bridge is firmly anchored on both sides and flexibility is designed into the middle parts of the span. Right now, we need more bridges and wells.
Mythologies, mysteries and passages. The ancient societies had an ample supply of all three. Our modern society barely bothers with any of that. Some differences are painfully obvious, such as when villagers know to go to higher ground "because the gods are having an argument." Or the fact that it takes The Pope to remind us that something like The Resurrection does not contradict science, but is beyond science. Or the cases of adults who try to force adult concepts on their children.
So, let's see what we might be able to find about this issue.
Blessed Be!

In the isolated villages in the north of Scotland, the villagers rely on the services of the chimney sweep, Pete Ray, and his old-fashioned brushes. Pete is always able to find work in the Scottish highlands, until the day that Police Constable Hamish Macbeth notices blood dripping onto the floor of a villager's fireplace, and a dead body stuffed inside the chimney. The entire town of Lochdubh is certain Pete is the culprit, but Hamish doesn't believe that the affable chimney sweep is capable of committing murder. Then Pete's body is found on the Scottish moors, and the mystery deepens. It's up to Hamish to discover who's responsible for the dirty deed--and this time, the murderer may be closer than he realizes.

In THIS PALESTINIAN LIFE, director Philip Rizk uses an oral history approach to highlight the stories and perspectives of Palestinian villagers and Bedouin. This method avoids using "experts" to interpret the broader Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Rather, the film's anthropological and ethnographic method portrays the daily life of Palestinian communities, in order to explore in greater depth how Palestinian life is being undermined by the pressure of Israeli occupation. Especially in Gaza, this style reveals the profound fragmentation of community life. The following stories are threaded together and interlaced to reveal the similarity of Israeli measures of occupation throughout Gaza and the West Bank, and the similarity of Palestinian reactions through sumoud â perseverance â to remain on the land.
Gripped by war, poverty and plague, the villagers of Oberammergau, in Bavaria, southern Germany vowed to put on a 'passion play' every ten years. That was back in 1633. They survived, and performed the first Oberammergau Passion Play in 1634. Ever since, their descendants have carried out that pledge. For the past four centuries the tradition has continued, every ten years. Only villagers have been allowed to take part. And that is what will happen yet again in 2010, from 15th May until 3rd October. They devote a year of their lives to re-enacting the life, death and resurrection of Christ. In real life for instance Jesus is a psychologist and Mary Magdalene works as a flight attendant. By taking on their roles in the Passion Play, they are fulfilling the promise to God made by their ancestors, celebrating their faith and sharing it with the world as Oberammergauers have for some 375 years. About half the inhabitants of Oberammergau take part in the play. This means that over 2,000 villagers will bring the story of Jesus of Nazareth to life for the audiences that flock in from around the world. The play starts with Jesus entering Jerusalem, continues with his death on the cross and finishes with the resurrection. As ever, this is an extraordinary community enterprise. 2010 sees a new production directed by Christian Stückl, director at Munich's noted Volkstheater He is supported by the artistic team that along with him staged the 2000 Passion Play: all from Oberammergau. The play starts at 2.30pm and, including a three-hour interval, ends at 10.30pm. The 102 performances take place between May 15 and October 3, 2010

An Indian villageâ¦where⦠people do not migrate to earn breadâ¦teachers do not bunk the classesâ¦ration shop keepers are honestâ¦..roads are neat and cleanâ¦.people live with harmony. Villagers are not dependent on government for development. In other words, Gandhi's dreams are coming true in this village. Hiware Bazar of Ahmed Nagar, Maharashtra is the same village. But the present picture was not so beautiful before 1989. Hibre Bazar had been suffering from the same problem faced by rest of the villages of India. Most of the Villagers were under poverty line. But, today per capita income of Hiware Bazar is more than 28 thousand rupees. Each and every work has been done in this village only after discussing and taking decision in GRAM SABHA in last 20 years. There is no role for politicians and officers in development work. Today people of this village- Do not cultivate sugarcane and banana-Do not use Tue well for irrigation Do not tame goats Construct a Mosque for a single Muslim Family of the village. Say, no governments in Delhi or Mumbai, but we ourselves are government in our village. This film tells the story of 20 years long journey of Hiware Bazar and proves that how a village under development can grow with some serious efforts on its own. All that need is to understand that roads of development would not come through Parliament or Legislatures but Gram Sabhas.

Sri Ramakrishna was born on 18 February 1836 in the village of Kamarpukur about sixty miles northwest of Kolkata. His parents, Kshudiram Chattopadhyaya and Chandramani Devi, were poor but very pious and virtuous. As a child, Ramakrishna (his childhood name was Gadadhar) was dearly loved by the villagers. From early days, he was disinclined towards formal education and worldly affairs. He was, however, a talented boy, and could sing and paint well. He was fond of serving holy men and listening to their discourses. He was also very often found to be absorbed in spiritual moods. At the age of six, he experienced the first ecstasy while watching a flight of white cranes moving against the background of black clouds. This tendency to enter into ecstasy intensified with age. His fatherâs death when he was seven years old served only to deepen his introspection and increase his detachment from the world.
As a Priest at Dakshineswar TempleClick to enlarge
When Sri Ramakrishna was sixteen, his brother Ramkumar took him to Kolkata to assist him in his priestly profession. In 1855 the Kali Temple at Dakshineswar built by Rani Rasmani was consecrated and Ramkumar became the chief priest in that temple. When he died a few months later, Ramakrishna was appointed the priest. Ramakrishna developed intense devotion to Mother Kali and spent hours in loving adoration of her image, forgetting the rituals of priestly duties. His intense longing culminated in the vision of Mother Kali as boundless effulgence engulfing everything around him.

Macedonian Immigration to Canada
At the turn of the 19th century, one of the largest groups of non-British settlers to arrive in Canada were villagers from the Balkan mountains, then part of the Turkish Empire. These early residents (and their descendants) call themselves Macedonians. They speak Macedonian, and have their own social and economic institutions including churches, fraternal and self-help organizations, and community-based enterprise, mainly in Metropolitan Toronto and the southern Ontario region.
Migration and Settlement
The majority of Macedonians who migrated to Canada arrived in the aftermath of the Illinden Uprising of 1903 - a heroic but unsuccessful attempt by Macedonians to end Ottoman domination.

Brimming with enthusiasm, the villagers not only hope for divine blessing, but above all for a small share of material happiness. And petty smuggler Beto is certain that he’s found the best business idea of all: “The Pope’s Toilet”, where the thousands of pilgrims can find relief.

Decided to try for slightly more style points. This time let's do it with zero casualties, including villagers. And let's kill the traitor with archers rather than the dwarf, to match the picture on the victory screen.
This is the version with no in-game commentary. If you'd rather hear my chatter (just color commentary this time, no new trivia or meta-commentary) then watch the previous video instead.

Episode 09 "Hozumi" - The summer festival in town is coming up and the villagers are starting to bring out decorations covered in bells, which makes Takuma remember about his late-mother's bell. He takes the bell to school, but does not know that there is a tradition in the village for a guy to give a bell to a girl he likes before the summer festival, which causes a few misunderstandings. Some of the villagers burn Hayami's makeshift home, and Takuma takes her in to his house. At night, she presses him to tell her more about his mother, and he finally tells her that she committed suicide. The night of the festival, Hayami goes to meet Takuma on a hill overlooking the village and Takuma confesses his love for her. Hayami accepts him and they kiss in the moonlight.
