Controlled Burn’s video submission for the Great Circle
Our proposed lineup for the great circle consists of 5 routines; starting with a duet and each routine building on the one before and growing in number. We start with placing two lit palm poi on either side of the middle stage area (in the video this is performed by one woman prior to the duet, but we can omit her dancing out alone and just place the palm poi on the ground prior to the start of the performance if you think it may distract from the duet start that you are aiming for). The duet then begins; walking out and lighting tools from the palm poi. After the duet, the next performance doubles in size with four fan performers. The next routine doubles yet again; with 8 staff. We continue to add performers to each routine until at the very end we have a total of 16 for the finale.
We have also coordinated our entrances and exits in a “rip tide” fashion, meaning that all performers will enter through middle back stage- “explode” into the stage area for their specific routine, and then circle around and filter back out single file down the middle to the back as the next routine prepares to go on. Our hope with this is to create a continuous flow with the choreography as it progresses and increases in size, much like the continuous flow of an electrical current.
Please note: If weather permits on the playa, there will be fire breathing in the third (staff) routine. This is not shown in the video due to wind on the night of taping.
Our consolidated choreographed lineup:
1. Set Stage
2. Duet
3. Fans (4)
4. Staff (8)
5. Mix 1 (12)
6. Mix 2 (16)
Thank you very much in advance for considering our submission this year. We always enjoy contributing to the magic and the energy that is the great circle!

I've had the idea for this video mulling around in my head for quite awhile. Usually television networks pump these out during their "reflection" moments on the 31st December or what have you, but many of them only dwell upon certain moments that were popular news reels throughout the year. In the hopes of rectifying that, I decided to produce this. In essence I want to try my hand at a chronological order, with monthly events following in a continual manner. There were some photos I had to adjust around to make the subject matter more coherent. I suppose this video represents many things; sadness, joy, the devastation of both man-made and natural disasters, and the resolution of the human spirit to endure through these times and help one another. Most of the events I've shown were significant in their own way. Some circumstances were first experiences towards a particular moment in that society/culture/nation, other moments have been running for quite some time whether they be concurrently or in an annual fashion. There were many events throughout this year which I had wanted to include but could not mostly due to time constraints. Again, as always, a huge thank you to The Big Picture at boston.com for giving me inspiration to doing something like this. Robert Capa pioneered photojournalism and it shall never die. Another huge thank you to the countless of souls who were involved with these photos, whether they were the ones standing behind the lens or the individuals in front of them. More thank you's to Glissando and Mono who have unknowingly provided the music for this; I know that one band at the very least would not mind but if I have offended both groups of musicians then my sincerest apologies in advance. To conclude this is the best I could do within a small timeframe on a New Year's Eve afternoon. Enjoy the rest of the year wherever you are on this beautiful planet and I hope you have a rejoiceful 2010.
Hi all,
As you will hear in my video I'm not feeling too well. Forgive me in advance for the frog in my throat : )
The markets and market internals are seriously mixed right now to my eye. Be careful in this environment (as always).
Thank you so much for all the comments and questions...keep up the good work.
Matador : )
This is Brock LaBorde and welcome to my one and only acting reel. Please watch this video carefully and make a decision about using me as an actor in all of your next productions. I've always wanted to do this (acting in things) and I'm the best at it that I know. Thank you in advance for choosing me. Also, I can make you a reel if you need one.
