From the Sutra of the Past Vows of Earth Store Bodhisattva: http://web.singnet.com.sg/~elyagaz/Kishitigarbha%20Bodhisattva%20Vow%20Sutra.htm
Buddha told Manjushri,
"As an analogy, it is as if in the thousands of worlds, all the grasses, trees, bushes, straw, hemp, bamboo, reeds, mountains, stones, dust and every object is made into the Ganges River. And each grain of sand in the Ganges River becomes a great world. And each speck of dust in each world is compared to an aeon. And within those aeons the specks of dust that would accumulate would also become aeons. Increase this amount a thousand times and this is how long Kishitigarbha has maintained the position of the Tenth Ground - the highest ground or position that a Bodhisattva can reach. Manjushri, the power from Bodhisattva's vow is unimaginable."

In this video I deconstruct the broken watch straw man argument used by creationist/ID supporters to attack evolution. I had to pack a ton of information into this video so you WILL need to pause it periodically.
The basic premise of the argument is that a bunch of parts will never randomly assemble into the correct arrangement to form a properly functioning complex. Once again, creationists/ID supporters miss the basic concept of evolution entirely. No biologists believes, nor is there any evidence that complex systems form spontaneously in one fell swoop. That would be creation. Systems evolve through many intermediates, one step at a time, slowly building up the complexity.
I simulate clocks as living organisms. Selective pressure is focused on their ability to accurately tell time. NO goal is imposed on the design. Clocks evolve through a series of transitional forms. Gradually the complexity is built up.
The intact harvester is a new invention that replaces the combine harvester. By harvesting crops intact - that is the straw and the grain together – the annual 1.8 billion acres of straw worldwide can be used for energy purposes. At present much of this straw returns to the land releasing CO² back to the atmosphere without benefit. Because the energy and labour inputs up to harvest are the same whether the straw is utilised or not, the straw is a free asset at that point. This straw could be used for electricity production or cellulosic ethenol.
The intact harvester will reduce our reliance on fossil fuels (and so help to address the problems of climate change) without using agricultural land to grow crops for fuel. Even more importantly this idea will go someway towards feeding the expected 8 billion world population in 2025 at the moment of Peak Food as biofuels can be produced without using the food portion of the crop.
Today on The Lunch, Rob and Will cover what could be the beginning of the end for the Iowa Straw Poll, the latest stats following last week's debates, Florida rising, and why Gov. Huckabee's son may be packing for an extended vacation.
Join Bebo in Africa, just outside the straw-thatched hut of his Compassion-sponsored child, Saake, who lives in Tanzania. Listen as Bebo shares his story of meeting Saake and his mother. Listen as Saake's mother tells how child sponsorship is giving this desperately poor family a wonderful gift -- hope! The establishment of ISKCON, Lord Chaitanya's sankirtana mission, was the vital plunge of the plough of Sri Baladeva who, with His sandhini potency, becomes the mainstay of Srila Prabhupada's creation. At first glance, the exuberant devotees were seen as part of a temporary phenomenon, a strange but exotic way to escape the heartless grinding machination of a competition driven industrialized monstrosity. After a short time, when Srila Prabhupada took his disciples to India, he knew that the straw hut of existing parameters had been bulldozed by the charge of his 'dancing white elephants'. If even to find one albino elephant is rare, then many of them seen together and dancing cleverly, too, is an astonishing find; most unlikely. And yes, his fellow countrymen took notice, his God brothers too, one of whom was moved to call Srila Prabhupada a saktyavesa avatar. So impossible it was.
