The Man Who Saved the World, a feature film/documentary, tells the true yet nearly untold story of Stanislav Petrov, the Soviet lieutenant colonel who single-handedly prevented nuclear Armageddon at the height of the Cold War. Stanislav Petrov, I'm sure you have never heard of him, and yet you, me and everyone who will ever live is and will be alive thanks to him. We use the term 'hero' all too commonly and Hollywood gives us a continuous diet of 'hero' characters, Petrov is the real thing, a real hero, who really did save the world. Many films aspire to tackle macro-society issues and intimate human relationships within the same story, but it often results in over-exposition or a muddy story with underdeveloped characters. "The Man Who Saved the World" succeeds in touching the audience with an important societal concern, while also developing the connective tissues to make us feel for a raw, flawed human being. This feature could not come more highly recommended. A truly wonderful and amazing film.

A few months ago, perhaps, the most conflictive and scandalous trial in modern law history started in Lithuania. The Vilnius County Court opened hearings into the case of January 13, 1991, sounding in events when thousands of fighters for Lithuania's independence under the guidance of the leader of the Sajudis nationalist organization Vytautas Landsbergis entered into an armed confrontation with the Soviet military. As a result, 14 people were killed. The court proceedings are held with numerous violations of international law and are based on the premise as though Lithuania was an independent state at the moment when these tragic events took place. It is well known that in 1991 Lithuania had no attributes of a sovereign state. The legal situation of dual power prevailed in the Republic. Lithuania did not control its borders. It did not have own passports, currency and armed forces. We should not forget either that Lithuania became the UN member only on 17 September, 1991.

Kiev respectfully declines, thinking that it is better to independently continue on his quest against Infernac.
