Rymill Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon is a red wine produced in the Coonawarra region of South Australia. It is made from the Cabernet Sauvignon grape and is known for its dark fruit flavors and full body.
Renowned food artist Michelle Wibowo has worked her magic to create a giant, edible optical illusion - taking inspiration from the famous Pintos painting by Californian artist Bev Dolittle which presents the question how many horses can you see? The new interpretation has been 'painted' to mark the official UK launch of Californian wine Dark Horse, a premium wine offering exceptional quality. It has been made using ingredients from the tasting notes of the Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon variants, including three kg of dark chocolate, three kg of caramel, seven kg of dried apple, two kg of spice and four kg coffee beans. The edible spectacle measures an impressive 8ft x 6ft and weighs almost 20 kg. Taking 60 hours to create, it involved painstaking planning, preparation and construction by Michelle in order to reimagine the tricky optical illusions that can be found in the original artwork. She pencilled the entire image by hand first before filling it in with the wine tasting notes, to ensure the optical illusion has observers transfixed and debating whether there are three, four or five horses in the picture.
"Winemaking Contest": In this episode of "Get Lost in Loudoun," our challengers arrive at Sunset Hills Vineyard, just outside Purcellville. Less than an hour west of Washington, D.C., Loudoun is known as DC's Wine Country, and is the home of 30 wineries and tasting rooms, and wine is an important part of the Loudoun tourism experience. They meet two Loudoun winemakers, Lori Corcoran of Corcoran Vineyards, and Nate Walsh of Sunset Hills, who give them an overview their wineries and of Loudoun's wine country. Sustainable agriculture and collaboration are two concepts that drive the Loudoun wine experience and are helping to establish Loudoun as the wine country to experience on the East Coast. The competition today for our challengers is to create their own unique blend of wine using three popular Loudoun varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. They'll be judged on three criteria: taste, bottle presentation, and accuracy and creativity of their presentation of their wine to a Loudoun sommelier. But, they'll only have 15 minutes to create their wine, label and their presentation, so they'll have to work fast. With Lori assisting James and Jolyn, and Nate guiding Haley and Andrew, watch to see which team toasts success. http://www.BKWineTours.com *Come on a wine & food tour with BKWine!* --- Interview with John Loubser, general manager at the Steenberg Vineyards Winery in Constantia on the Cape peninsula in South Africa.
Steenberg means Stone Mountain. The reason is obvious when you come here: you are surrounded by stones and mountains, granite stone mountain. This soil gives fantastic sauvignon blanc wines with lots of minerality. They also have sandy soil, loam and other terroir, but all originates from the granite. Steenberg is a very old farm that dates back to 1682. It was actually the first winemaking farm in the Constantia Valley
The strength and what makes Steenberg Vineyards Winery famous are the sauvignon blancs. The climate is cool which is ideal for these wines. Steenberg makes four different sauvignon blanc wines: an entry level wine, one called Rattle Snake, a Reserve and then the ânormalâ sauvignon blanc. The difference is primarily the origin of the grapes, so the selection. But it is also how they ...
http://www.BKWineTours.com *Come on a wine & food tour with BKWine!* --- Cortes de Cima: interview with winemaker Hamilton Reis. Cortes de Cima is a winery in the Alentejo region in Portugal, an hour an a half east of Lisbon. Their total range includes more than a dozen wines. The main:
Chamine is the entry level wine, a blend with mainly Portuguese grape varieties (aragonez, trincadeira and touriga nacional) and syrah, made to be fruity, silky tannins, young and fresh, an everyday wine.
The cuvee Cortes de Cima, in a way the flagship of the winery. It is a blend with the same grapes plus a bit of cabernet sauvignon, a bit barrel ageing (French and American oak). More full bodied, more complex, rich, deep.
Then come the varietals:
Syrah (of different kinds), trincadeira, and touriga nacional varietal wines (and some other). They are even more ambitious wines. The objective is to showcase the grape varieties, show the wine drinker what these grape varieties mean and their true character. The touriga ...
