Rapper Reece Whyte – part of RAYLO – has taken the next step in making it as a musician as he releases his first single, Winner, following the success of the Pot Noodle ‘Ring Boy’ #YouCanMakeIt TV ad, in which he provided the soundtrack. Britain’s number one snack brand has seen a surge of public demand for an official release of Winner by RAYLO – sampled on the soundtrack to the famous #YouCanMakeIt advert. Having provided Winner with the airtime and hype that comes with it, the next move was for Pot Noodle to help Reece fulfil his dreams and support the official release through Ultra Records and the music video for the track. In the space of four months, lead singer Reece Whyte has been propelled into the spotlight and is looking to give up his day jobs to pursue his dreams of a career in music. To help him make it, Pot Noodle has backed his music video. Winner first shot to fame after originally featuring on a Pot Noodle advert which dominated television screens nationwide in September last year. My music here is a reimagining of the intro for the open source version of Star Control 2: The Urquan Masters, and part of the Precursors remix project: http://sc2.sourceforge.net/ http://www.medievalfuture.com/precursors/ The Intro was composed from four things: my X5 keyboard, my rusty old Ross RG10 guitar amp (which I love heartily), the original soundtrack, and "Shredder's Theme" from the TMNT movie soundtrack. Of the last two, only the intro 'boom' from SC2 is used as well as several 'boom' sounds I sampled from the beginning and end of "Shredders Theme" (and subsequently sped up/slowed down, combined & processed - heavily..). Incidentally, that theme is a great piece of work, and holds up today. This came together pretty smoothly and quickly - without a lot of prior thought. After that I did a ton of work - on both pieces - trying new plugins and different processing techniques - No metronomes were harmed in the baking of this cake... Thanks to the original creators of the game: Toys for Bob - and thanks to the original game composers, for being such an inspiration for me. For my latest mixtape, "110%", I decided to remix Wale's first major label single "Chillin" f/ Lady Gaga. For the remix, I wanted to go with something more organic to make it different than the 808- & synth-heavy original. To keep it DC, I sampled a break from go-go band Trouble Funk's "Let's Get Small", which Boogie Down Productions used on their classic "Criminal Minded". From there, I layered 2 other breaks that BDP used in that song (Isaac Hayes' "Breakthrough" and Syl Johnson's "Different Strokes") and added some more samples and loops to accompany certain lines that Wale raps. The result is an uptempo, mega-mix style remix, suitable for the clubs, the jeeps, the streets, bar mitzvahs, weddings and ipods. 110%! They have quite a following on Twitter as well as in the real world, and will be expanding their operations from two trucks to four. Alice talks about how they planned to use social media to help grow their business from day one. She attributes much of their increased popularity to bloggers, especially food bloggers.
