http://yalebooks.com/yupbooks/book.asp?isbn=9780300178715 In this lively and provocative book, Michael Coogan guides readers into the ancient past to examine the iconic Ten Commandments, also known as the Decalogue. How, among all the laws reportedly given on Mount Sinai, did the Ten Commandments become the Ten Commandments? When did that happen? There are several versions of the Decalogue in the Old Testament, so how have different groups determined which is the most authoritative? Why were different versions created? Coogan discusses the meanings the Ten Commandments had for audiences in biblical times and observes that the form of the ten proscriptions and prohibitions was not fixed—as one would expect since they were purported to have come directly from God—nor were the Commandments always strictly observed. In later times as well, Jews and especially Christians ignored and even rejected some of the prohibitions, although the New Testament clearly acknowledges the special status of the Ten Commandments. Today it is plain that some of the values enshrined in the Decalogue are no longer defensible, such as the ownership of slaves and the labeling of women as men’s property. Yet in line with biblical precedents, the author concludes that while a literal observance of the Ten Commandments is misguided, some of their underlying ideals remain valid in a modern context. Michael Coogan is director of publications for the Harvard Semitic Museum, lecturer on Old Testament/Hebrew Bible at Harvard Divinity School, editor of The New Oxford Annotated Bible, and author of God and Sex: What the Bible Really Says. He lives in Concord, MA.
In late May, online security firm Trusteer, an IBM company, raised alarms about a new online banking Trojan it calls Zberp. According to Trusteer, more than 450 global banking institutions in the U.S., the United Kingdom and Australia have been targeted by this malware strain, which combines features from Zeus and Carberp, two well-documented banking Trojans. Just days earlier, global cyber-intelligence firm IntelCrawler warned of new point-of-sale malware known as Nemanja, which had reportedly infected retailers in nearly 40 countries. And news about recent evolutions in the mobile malware strain known as Svpeng also has caused concern. In May, Svpeng was found to have evolved from merely a banking Trojan to a malware strain equipped with a dual ransomware feature (see New Ransomware Targets Mobile). But with so many alerts about new and emerging malware strains and attacks, how should banking institutions respond? It's a growing challenge for information and security risk officers because one of the keys to mitigating cyber-risks is differentiating new threats from older ones.

On March 9, 2011 several Police brutally ordered a K-9 to attack an unarmed, California Registered (RN). The California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Orange County then attempted to cover up the incident. Malik King, a reportedly Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) since nineteen and RN since twenty three, is said to have initially attempted to steal a car. Later, it was found he was the owner of that Mercedes. What ensued next on the part of several officers goes well beyond the bounds of simply trying to subdue their suspect. The several police officers ordered a police K-9 to attack him while he was still fastened in his seat-belt; tasered multiple times while the K-9 attacked for over one minute and thirty seconds, then hand cuffed, slammed to the concrete, hog tied, beat and kicked in the head until unconscious. He was then taken to jail, accused of multiple felonies, and had to pay $50,000 for bail. Despite witnesses and the clear brutality of the beating, kicking, tasering, and ordered K-9 attack, California Highway Patrol allowed several officers to remain active and attempted a cover-up. Violations of federal law occur when it can be shown that the force used was willfully "unreasonable" or "excessive". By signing this petition you agree that "unreasonable" or "excessive force" was used on Malik A. King on March 9, 2011 in Orange County, California. The beating of Mr. King is sickening and disturbing. The police involved in the beating and cover up must be brought to justice. Tell Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas to thoroughly investigate and prosecute the officers involved in the brutality of Malik A. DigitalMarketer it’s just smarter Google Strikes Back With One Day Shipping? Posted on December 2, 2011 It seems like a real world puts on the ground–type adventure for such an online–centric company. But it would appear that Google is eyeing the shipping business. According to the Wall Street Journal, Google is reportedly talking to the Macy’s, OfficeMax, and the Gap about a new plan to offer a 24–hour shipping. Apparently, Google would oversee the 1–day shipping action coordinating with the retailer’s dark room to ensure that the delivery action is possible with the given product. You have to wonder though, is Google really going to turn a profit as a modern day poly express? There’s a better than average chance that Google is working on this feature for this specific purpose of competing with Amazon, the new AmazonPrime feature in particular. For $79 a year, Amazon users can enjoy a 2–day shipping in addition to a bunch of other perks. With its 1 day shipping scheme, Google seems to be treating Amazon less like a partner and more like a rival. It’s important to note that Macy’s, OfficeMax, and The Gap already accept Google wallet payments. They’re in the inner circle. If the 1 day shipping feature gets the green light, you’ll probably see a lot more if easy place on the product list feature. Would that be enough to rival Amazon? No, not anytime soon anyway. If you haven’t spent any time on product search, we suggest you take it for a test drive. Search for your products. Search for your competitors products. You may be surprised of what you find. Dr. Roger Coon has served his church for more than a half-century in numerous and varied leadership roles, including pastor, evangelist, teacher, author, and hospital chaplain among others. He is perhaps best-known for his work in theological education, having co-founded the Adventist Seminary of West Africa, and taught courses or served as guest lecturer on the campuses of 33 of the 87 institutions of higher education operated by Seventh-day Adventists worldwide. He also served as Associate Director of the White Estate for 12 years until his retirement in 1993. He continued to be a much-in-demand speaker at church gatherings until he passed away on February 2, 2011. In 1890 Ellen White spoke of "the very last deception of Satan" within Adventism as being a concerted effort to accomplish two goals: 1) To destroy her credibility as a true prophet of the Lord, and 2) The creation of a "Satanic...hatred" against those writings--"Satanic" both as to origin, and also as to intensity. (1SM48:3,4) This is part two of the five part series. THE "MORALITY" ISSUE. The Barrier of Alleged Plagiarist Practices. Many dismiss Ellen White's claim to prophetic inspiration because of seeming evidence that she committed plagiarism, and then, allegedly, compounded her problem by reportedly denying it. In any responsible consideration of this problem, five issues must (and will) be examined: 1) The Definitional Problem, 2) The Biblical Problem, 3) The Legal Problem, 4) The Ethical/Moral Problem, and 5) The Practical Problem. As a west-coast refugee, I happen to really like contemporary style homes. While they are certainly less common out here in "amish country", they can be found tucked in around Lancaster County and are just a lot of fun to check out. Today I am in a small, less-expensive example but still most definitely Mid-Century Modern, localed on the west side in Lancaster Township. Check out the beamed ceilings, glass walls and high transom-type windows. This home was built by a designer in 1947 who also reportedly built one or two of the Mid-Century Modern examples up on Blossom Hill north of the city in Manheim Township. The home that am filming this episode in does not appear to have been significantly upgraded in it's lifetime, meaning that some original "modern" features still remain like the solid wood closet doors and even a very period dining room lamp. I love this stuff! Mid-Century Modern design was in vogue from the late 1940's through about 1970. This style had many iterations but most often was a one-floor layout with a flat or peaked roof and heavy beaming on the inside, without an attic. There were no basements in most cases. Floor to ceiling windows and "glass walls" to bring the outside in was a key component. A proponent of the mid-century modern movement was a builder named Joseph Eichler, who designed amazing homes on the west coast in the 50's and 60's. In Lancaster PA, Mid Century Modern styled homes are obviously few and far between. I listed and sold a wonderful one in Manheim Township last summer (I really wanted to buy it myself!). I've toured several and every so often one comes up for sale. Remember, a mid-century modern home is a contemporary, but a contemporary is not always a mid-century modern... If you'd like to talk more about mid century modern homes or contemporary homes in general feel free to email at jeff@yourlancasterhome.
Shortly after he left his post as the car czar within the Obama Administration, Steven Rattner found himself mired in a scandal involving his private equity firm Quadrangle.
Specifically, Rattner was accused of bribing a New York pension official in exchange for Quadrangle managing a part of the pension fund. Rattner settled the SEC charges this week, reportedly paying a $5 million fine and agreeing to a temporary bar from the securities industry.
In an exclusive interview, Rattner says that the investigation of his involvement in this "pay-to-play" scandal is the most painful thing he's ever experienced throughout his (amazing) career.

This film proposes to debunk myths propagandized by the North Korean government about its "Dear Leader" Kim Jong-il, a "worshipper of his own people" who reportedly suffered all the ebbs and flows of sorrow in solidarity with his country during "The March of Tribulations" period (1994-97), when millions of people were in fact being systematically starved to death by his despotic regime. According to propaganda, Kim is told to have eaten potatoes and coarse rice balls off the streets while taking numerous field surveys "for the sake of the ordinary people." In contrast to such propaganda's blatant untruth, this film seeks to shed light instead on the striking facts of the dictator's extravagant and hypocritical lifestyle he actually led at the time and that has continued to this day, by examining the contents of Fujimoto Genji's memoir "Kim Jong-il's Chef," a book based on the author's first-hand experience of having formerly served as a private chef and oft-sought playmate to Kim on his various extravagant pastimes. By spreading this film, the authors seek to fight against the idolized myths about Kim Jong-il, undercut the loyalty of the people blindedly pledged to him, and build anti-Kim-Jong-il solidarity among the Korean people and concerned citizens of the world.
