Part 1 Includes the Mid-Day News presented by Kenneth Kendal, Peter Sissons presenting ITN’s News at One, lunchtime programme Pepple Mill at One, the early evening programme Nationwide, presented a special tribute with Frank Bough & Hugh Scully In the early hours of Tuesday 9th December 1980, I woke from a nightmare. I had dreamed that John Lennon had been murdered. I soon realised, for reasons I was never able to explain, that my bedside radio had turned on several hours earlier than it was set to come on, and I had obviously heard the first news report in my sleep. A mate of mine was staying in the house at the time, and we both decided there was nothing for it, but to take the day off work, get a crate of beer in, hold a wake, and watch the reports and tributes. The TV companies threw their schedules out of the window and did a remarkable job of assembling tributes & reports. Virtually the whole day’s TV output was changed. This was long before all day news channels, and breakfast TV, so the first televised news was at 12.45 the “Mid-day News” presented by Kenneth Kendal. is a short-form improvisational comedy TV show. Originally a British radio programme, it moved to television in 1988 as a series made for the UK's Channel 4, for a ten-series run.
The show consists of a panel of four performers who create characters, scenes and songs on the spot, in the style of short-form improvisation games, many taken from theatresports. Topics for the games are based on either audience suggestions or predetermined prompts from the host. Both the British and the American shows ostensibly take the form of a game show with the host arbitrarily assigning points and likewise choosing a winner at the end of each episode. However, the show lacks the true stakes and competition of a game show (by design). The "game show" format is simply part of the comedy.

This film was produced by the Global Youth project documenting Champions Challenge 2009.
The âI love meâ Champions Challenge was a competition between the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester, taking place on the 27th June 2009 at Wright Robinson Sports College.
Young people competed in a variety of sports to earn honours for themselves and points for the boroughs they represent.
Running alongside this exciting sporting event was the Champions Challenge Arts programme â09.
The adjacent arts programme was lead by Salford City Council with support from Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council and Trafford Council.
This was a unique opportunity for young people to work with leading arts organisations Spearfish and Lets Go Global, who delivered innovative digital and urban art activities on the day.
Young people from the Global Youth project also produced this video documentary of the event.

The episode begins with Tony and Deborah sitting watching a drama programme,of which Deborah is engrossed and Tony is finding tediously boring. After failing to divert Deborah's attention away from the TV and onto himself Deborah loses patience and firmly states that although she finds him attractive,Tony's selfishness and immaturity will always prevent them being a couple.Gary meanwhile is starting to arise suspicions that Dorothy could be having an affair after reading an article in a magazine that bares striking resemblence to the couple's relationship (such as receiving guilt inspired presents and giving lame excuses to avoid seeing each other). The evidence prompts Gary to ask Dorothy outright upon her arrival at the flat,to which she simply replies 'that its for you to find out'.
Gary decides to play detective in order to find out Dorothy's whereabouts and begins by hiring a disguise(a Mexican hat) and a red Nissan Micra which he sit's in outside Dorothy's parents house to keep watch on any suspicious visitors.Tony meanwhile joins the Happy Companion Scheme at the local old people's home,in the hope that it will prove to Deborah that he is capable of caring about people other than himself.

Julie Bindel, founder of Justice for Women, discusses the unfinished battle for women's emancipation with Peter Tatchell - on his weekly TV programme, Talking With Tatchell.
Women's rights have been long ignored, frustrated and delayed. A century after the Suffragettes, women are still treated as the second sex.
What are the key injustices holding back women?
Among other things, shocking levels of domestic violence, sexual abuse and degrading imagery still blight the lives of millions of women. They also suffer fewer job opportunities, lower incomes and glass ceilings. Women's liberation remains an aspiration, not yet a reality.
How do we ensure equal rights, dignity and liberation for the female half of humanity?

Sian Berry , Green Party candidate for London Mayor, critiques Ken Livingstone's record and sets out her agenda for a green, affordable London . Sian is interviewed by Peter Tatchell on his weekly TV programme, Talking With Tatchell.
Sian discusses river buses to transform the Thames River into the 14th 'tube' line; and cuts in public transport fares to encourage people to leave their cars at home. She also talks about more eco-friendly low-cost housing; and a massive tree-planting programme to soak up pollution and carbon, and to turn London into a garden city.

Zimbabwe Independence Day on 18 April (2007) should have been a day of national pride and celebration. Instead, it was day of mourning and protests – in Zimbabwe and by Zimbabwean refugees across the world, including in London. The protests were against President Mugabe's misgovernance, which has resulted in 2,200% inflation, 80% unemployment, an average life expectancy of only 35 years and over 1.5 million orphans. Zimbabwe 's students are playing a key role in these protests against the Mugabe regime – and being systematically targeted for arrest and beatings by the President's secret police and security forces. In his weekly TV programme, Talking With Tatchell, Peter Tatchell interviews Washington Katema, National Coordinator, Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU). 19.04.07
Nuclear, coal and gas-fired power are based on finite resources and are environmentally destructive. Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) is the tried-and-tested, safe, non-polluting, cost-effective and permanently sustainable energy technology that can meet the world's entire electricity needs and spur the economic development of many currently arid, impoverished nations. It is the key to future global energy provision and security.
On his weekly TV programme, Talking With Tatchell, Peter Tatchell interviews Neil Crumpton, Climate and Energy campaigner with Friends of the Earth.

Over the last year, Iran has seen rising levels of resistance to President Ahmadinejad's repressive regime. Strikes by bus workers and teachers, women's rights demonstrations, student occupations and protests by Iran 's suppressed national minorities, especially the Kurds, Baluchis and Ahwazi Arabs.
Rejecting the neo-con agenda of US invasion or a preemptive strike against Tehran , human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell asks: What are the prospects for regime change from within – by and for the Iranian people?
On his weekly TV programme, Talking With Tatchell, Peter Tatchell interviews Maryam Namazie - Iranian broadcaster, humanist, feminist and communist – on the value of solidarity with the Iranian people's struggle for democracy, socialism and human rights.
16.03.07
Big brother is watching you. ID cards are ineffective, costly, an invasion of privacy and a threat to civil liberties. They will pave the way for a huge increase in state surveillance, with the government owing and controlling our identities.
On his weekly TV programme, Talking With Tatchell, human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell interviews Phil Booth, national coordinator of No2ID, the national campaign against ID cards and the data-base state.
10.03.07
Russia 's transition to pluralist democracy is at best shaky and at worst being reversed. The relatively liberal Yeltsin era has been eclipsed by a new wave of authoritarianism under Putin. The electoral system is fixed to block the emergence of new parties and anti-establishment candidates. Press freedom is constrained by threats, intimidation and the murder of journalists. Human rights violations are widespread and often unchecked.
Symptomatic of these many abuses is the banning of the Moscow Gay Pride march by the city's Mayor, Yuri Luzhkov. He has denounced the march as “satanic.”
On his weekly TV programme, Talking With Tatchell, human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell interviews Nikolai Alekseev, the Russian gay human rights campaigner who is organiser of Moscow Gay Pride and head of the LGBT Human Rights Project of Gay Russia.

More than 40 years after Indonesia invaded and occupied West Papua , the people there are still fighting for independence.
At least 100,000 West Papuans have been killed by the Indonesian imperialists. Britain is aiding the slaughter, selling Hawk attack aircraft which are used to bomb villages and water cannon and armoured cars that are used to crush peaceful protests.
British companies like BP and Rio Tinto are ripping out West Papua's natural resources. Through the franchises and taxes they pay to Indonesia, these companies are helping finance the Indonesian army of occupation.
On his weekly TV programme, Talking With Tatchell, human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell interviews Benny Wenda, Chair, Koteka Tribal Assembly, West Papua, Maria Wenda, West Papuan independence and women's rights activist, and Richard Samuelson, Co-director of the Free West Papua Campaign (UK).

As Labour slides to the right, the Green Party is shifting to the left. Are the Greens destined to displace Labour as the main left party of democracy, social justice, human rights, peace and environmental protection?
Opinion polls reveal growing public support for the Green Party. Labour membership is down and the Labour vote is down. Many people who are disillusioned with Blairism and Brownism are joining the Greens.
The Green Party is the fastest growing and most effective progressive party in British politics. It already has nearly 100 local councillors, two MEPs, seven Members of the Scottish Parliament and two members of the London Assembly.
On his weekly TV programme, Talking With Tatchell, human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell interviews Derek Wall, Principal Male Speaker of the Green Party.
16.02.07
Religious fundamentalism is growing in strength and influence. It demands state funding for faith schools and charities, the censorship of plays and operas, and the attempted exemption of religious bodies from equality legislation, such as the new sexual orientation regulations.
The government often colludes with the religious right. Conservative faith leaders (not liberal, progressive ones) are granted privileged access to 10 Downing Street . They are consulted on all major policy issues. Human rights and civil liberty groups get no such access to the corridors of government.
Is the power of the religious right a threat to democracy and human rights?
Why does the government often collude with its theocratic agenda?
On his weekly TV programme, Talking With Tatchell, human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell interviews Keith Porteous Wood, Executive Director of the National Secular Society.

In November this year (2007), the Commonwealth Heads Of Government Meeting (CHOGM) will take place in the Ugandan capital of Kampala.
Some Ugandan opposition activists and human rights campaigners are questioning whether CHOGM should go head in Uganda , given the suppression of democracy and human rights by the government of President Yoweri Museveni.
His regime stands accused of rigged elections, censorship of the media, repression of protests, crackdowns on universities and trade unions, homophobic witch-hunts, detention without trial and the use of torture.
On his weekly TV programme, Talking With Tatchell, human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell interviews three leading members of the UK chapter of the main Ugandan opposition movement, the Forum for Democratic Change: Desmond Nzaana, Michael Senyonjo and Rosemary Buzabalyawo.
